Move discussion in progress[edit]

Specific Epithet Etymology?[edit]

'Leucocephala' means 'white head' in Greek. This article states: "The specific epithet leucocephala is from Ancient Greek leukolophos meaning "white-crested" (from leukos meaning "white" and lophos meaning "crest")." I don't have access to the source cited here, so maybe it's correct, but that would be surprising. Wondering if someone else can verify. Savaging (talk) 12:25, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like Aa77zz added that here. Tagging him in for clarification. I'm not a Latin expert by any means, but I know what "-cephala" means. Iloveparrots (talk) 17:23, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for picking this up. I don't know how that happened. Note that Jobling is available from the Internet Archive - registration not required. There is also a slightly updated version available from the Cornell BOW website here. Unlike most of the BOW pages it is not behind a paywall. I prefer to cite the book (and the IA scan) where possible. I used to cite the Jobling etymologies on the HBW Alive website - but this disappeared as websites often do. - Aa77zz (talk) 19:02, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
