Problem w/ number of ballots
[edit]The MLB article cited in the Article says he received 14 out of 16 votes. The AP article says 12 of 16 ([1]) -- soon we should have clarification about which is correct, but something to mark to be fixed then. -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 05:40, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
Assessment and suggestions
[edit](I have relocated the baseball banner outside the shell. Is that unethical?
(I have upgraded the article to oldtime-importance=high, following another editor's upgrade of its general baseball importance, perhaps an overstatement.)
Congratulations to all the Whites!
This article should be grade C before next summer, preferably grade B.
Let me begin without a clue how much assessment and suggestion I will have today or any time soon.
- the lead section is too long
- the lead paragraph is too long, even without the ridiculous third clause of the third sentence
- the Hall of Fame tidbit is good as the last sentence of the lead, if the latter is much shorter
- the last three paragraphs of Career belong in sections Personal and (new) Hall of Fame
- delay of personal biography to the end of the text is a bad idea
- his native town of Caton is very close to Elmira, New York, his 1891 minor league city, immediately following that "23-year career at the top levels of the sport"
If I don't return this month (December 2013) I will appreciate a reminder. --P64 (talk) 22:32, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
"Oldest" player inducted into the Hall of Fame
[edit]Should that be re-worded, maybe? When I think of "oldest player inducted into Hall of Fame," I think, "What player was the oldest when inducted into the HOF; specifically, ALIVE?", not, "What player was inducted the most years after their birth, which would technically make him the oldest?". I'd assume most other people would, too, but... 69.160.210.168 (talk) 22:36, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
