Disambiguation, father and son
[edit]Middle name of Galloway not helpful in article title, but it is never-the-less appropriate in the full name with which the first sentence begins. Compare, e.g., Barack Obama begins with the American politician's full name, Barack Hussein Obama II ....
It may be better for this article to begin Deane Galloway Keller Sr. and for Deane G. Keller to begin with Dean Gallowy Keller Jr.?
Comments? Questions? --Tenmei (talk) 02:18, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
- Are you sure that Deane Sr. had the middle name Galloway? I can't find it in any sources, and I do know that in public documents his son's name sometimes included the middle initial, probably to distinguish his name from that of his father. Nor do I recall the younger Deane using a 'Jr.' in his name. JNW (talk) 02:50, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
- I did see Jr & Sr somewhere, but I encountered it only once and I can't easily find it again. Therefore, I'm deleting both Jr. and Sr.

- An anonymous editor (geolocated at the University of Pennsylvania) made small edits today; and it caused me to wonder if greater specificity would be an improvement? I think we agree that it does not. Since you knew the younger Keller, I'm persuaded that your informed judgment resolves this trivial issue.
- In future, if someone stumbles across these linked Keller articles, the fact that this will have been the subject of a discussion thread effectively creates a burden for him/her. I would argue that there needs to be a reliable source cited in support of an editing choice other than what you suggest above?
- If necessary, we could add headnotes? Let's wait and see how this plays out. --05:24, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, Tenmei. I might be able to talk to someone who can impart more conclusive information on the name business. Once again, great work on these articles. Cheers, JNW (talk) 19:01, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
