The content at issue is likely motivated by an ongoing labour dispute: Canada Post’s largest union, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, will be legally in a position to go on strike tonight, Sunday August 28, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. I’m in Communications with Canada Post, and am declaring that openly. The revisions do not meet Wikipedia’s fundamental principles about biographies of living persons: that entries be written from a neutral point of view and display an impartial tone and cite reliable published sources. The specific violations are: 1. Para 1, sentences 2, 3 and 4: “Deepak Chopra was kindly requested to resign by the new Trudeau government, but has refused, ensuring a legal battle to force his removal from the post he has dishonoured. It is understood the he was appointed by Harper to serve the interests of the Ex-Prime Minister. He is commonly termed as ‘The CEO gone Rogue.’”
i. “Dishonoured” is a hostile, subjective and unsupported assertion. ii. “Appointed by Harper to serve the interests of the Ex-Prime Minister.” This is unsupported and inaccurate. Mr. Chopra was appointed President and CEO after a successful global career in the postal industry and following a rigorous and competitive selection process which included “an international search conducted by a leading executive search firm.” [1] iii. The unsupported assertion that ‘CEO gone Rogue’ is a common descriptor is gross exaggeration and biased. The term is in fact the headline of a CUPW (union) news release: [2]
