Stabbing during the Olympics[edit]

Hello. While I agree that a section on this incident or even a simple external link is premature at this point, I do believe that the interwiki link to the Wikinews article should remain. Many people will be visiting this article regarding this news item and they should be directed to the Wikinews article. Otherwise they will likely want to try to make additions here. —Ashanda (talk) 00:05, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 01:59, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Disgree with the current history section. Is Wikipedia seriously offering that in the life of this tower, 700 years, that stabbing was significant? Will that entry warrant anything in 100 years time? Let me put it another way. If the entry on the 2008 stabbing read (with a cited reference of course) that thi was the only time anyone had ever been injured by another person at this tower, then perhaps it would have relevance. Furthermore was the stabbing caused by the location or did it just happen to occur there? Again, would we expect a reference to the most recent murder in Compton in it's wikipedia page simply because it is current? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ei2g (talkcontribs) 10:35, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Propose we remove the paragraph from the history section but leave the wikinews boxout Ei2g (talk) 10:55, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
@Ashanda @Ei2g @PalaceGuard008 Pinging to let you know that I have added a one-sentence mention of the stabbing to the body of this article. I felt that the "See also" section was not the best place for linking to an event so closely connected to this location, especially one that would probably qualify for a stand-alone article based on the WP:GNG and is fairly unique (I know of no other violent incidents at the Beijing Drum Tower). If you still have any objection to this, 15 years later, I would be happy to discuss. Toadspike (talk) 18:53, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
