No discussion of serfs

The feudal system has a common structure to Fenjian: serfs, fiefs, feudal lords, and a king/emperor. Serfs are bound to fiefs and pay head tax. Feudal lords are granted fiefs. Confucianism replaces Christianity as the governing moral order. Ignoring the serfs and all these common elements obfuscated something that seems to be pointing at some kind of sociological universal.24.246.136.247 (talk) 14:08, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(Late to the party) Fengjian is conflated with feudalism often enough. There are common elements, but they're not that common. Ignoring for a moment the sociological universal that people who crave power over others tend to obtain and exercise it to the greatest degree possible, farmers in early China were not necessarily bound to land the way serfs were, the relationship between the enfeoffed and the monarch was different, and the system predates Confucianism. (I almost wrote "strictly predates Confucianism", but that runs into definitional problems I don't want to reread about right now to confirm.) Folly Mox (talk) 13:06, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
