Move discussion in progress
[edit]There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Fletcher Norton (politician) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 20:50, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
Requested move 6 November 2021
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Consensus not to move - Two oppose !votes and no support !votes makes this a 2:1 oppose:move ratio, but number of !votes isn't everything. Looking at the arguments against moving they appear to be based on solid statistical data. In contrast the move argument appears to be based on the wording of the DAB page, which is easily fixed through editing and need not be addressed through a move, and is therefore less strong. As such, and taking into account the !voting in the relatively recent RM discussion, this is a consensus not to move. Whilst more !votes would make this clearer, there have been no votes for 10 days and no reason to expect any more, I therefore have not relisted this. Fletcher Norton (disambiguation) → Fletcher Norton – Among the three men listed upon the Fletcher Norton (disambiguation) page, none is listed as the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, with the base name flowing to the 18th-century English political figure Fletcher Norton, 1st Baron Grantley. — Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 20:44, 6 November 2021 (UTC)— Relisting. —usernamekiran • sign the guestbook • (talk) 20:20, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. Editors should note that this move was previously proposed here and closed with no consensus as to this move. I oppose for the same reason as before, namely that page views show that Fletcher Norton, 1st Baron Grantley is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Either the DAB page should be rewritten to reflect the primary topic or the DAB page should simply be deleted. We have no article on the third baron—that link redirects to Baron Grantley—therefore this is really a WP:ONEOTHER situation and can be addressed with a hat-note. Note that Fletcher Norton, 1st Baron Grantley is correctly named per WP:NCPEER, despite the primary redirect. Havelock Jones (talk) 22:21, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- Editors should also note that, among the three votes at Talk:Fletcher Norton (judge)#Requested move 20 October 2021, only one vote opposed the move Fletcher Norton (disambiguation) → Fletcher Norton. Since that October discussion also focused on the main title header of the entry for Fletcher Norton (judge), it seemed appropriate to focus this nomination solely upon the existence of a primary topic for this dab page. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 23:17, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- To be clear, I don't suggest the re-nomination was inappropriate; I merely think it's worth noting that there was a previous discussion. Havelock Jones (talk) 23:23, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

- Comment: following the previous RM, I changed the redirect at Fletcher Norton (politician). If this RM goes through, that redirect should be amended to point to the base name as a redirect from partial disambiguation. Havelock Jones (talk) 23:28, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose, the current primary redirect is justified per pageviews. 162 etc. (talk) 21:12, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
