Individual Character Articles

[edit]

I think this game is noteworthy enough for each character to have his/her own page. Thus far, most of the characters (with the exception of Rock Howard and Kain R. Heinlein) have either very short pages, or none at all (Kevin Ryan and Freeman). Also, character like Gato should under Gato (Fatal Fury) rather than Gato (King of Fighters), because despite being present in the most recent King of Fighters games, his debut was in the Garou Densetsu series. Bonne Jenet should be given a more substantial article so as to be moved from the List of minor characters in the Ash Crimson Saga Digital Watches 21:34, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Freeman + Template

[edit]

I made an article for Freeman, as well as an inuniverse subtemplate for MotW Characters. Hopefully this should help make the character articles a bit more uniform.

Intro para

[edit]
  • "graphical brilliance"? Come on. I tried to write a less purple intro paragraph, and Pablo G reverted me. I switched it back, told him "discuss a new version on the talk page" and then I realized I'm accusing him of doing what I was doing. Whoo hoo for unilateral hijacking... but I switched it back. That intro paragraph really needs a rework. Danny Lilithborne 07:30, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I don't have any problem with removing the sentence that says "graphical brilliance" and names SF3 (and the mention of SF3 on the article is a little out of place as well), this line: "Like SF3, the game is known for its graphical brilliance, being able to push the capabilities of the Neo-Geo to its limits." As long as the next block isn't removed it's fine for me. PabloG 16:29, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion of game mechanisms

[edit]

Perhaps it would be proper to include a paragraph that explains some of the gameplay aspects of MotW. Around the time of release, the developers of 2D fighters were looking into ways to bring more depth to a genre that started to rust into place. The Street Fighter 3 series and Mark of the Wolves were pioneering games in this endeavour, therefore it would certainly be relevant enough information. Among techniques important to the game (and since then or before in 2D fighters in general) are:

  • Just-defend
  • Guard cancels
  • Breaks
  • Feint moves

Some of these will have equivalents in other games (just-defend being based on the parry mechanism of SF3). Cross-referencing with other articles might strengthen the coherence of the information on this game genre. --Nekotaku 17:58, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, but I only barely scratched the surface; however, we should try to stay true to the spirit of Wikipedia:Make technical articles accessible. We don't really need to add fluff that only enthusiasts such as ourselves care about. -MissingNOOO 02:31, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Garou VS Fatal Fury

[edit]

Why is this page using Garou instead of Fatal Fury? Especially when all the other FF titles on wikipedia don't use Garou? 163.41.146.247 (talk) 19:17, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because the game is called Garou: Mark of the Wolves in the east. --AnY FOUR! (talk) 19:59, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Does it matter? This game was officially released in NA under the Fatal Fury title. I think we should change the page name and remove all references to Garou. 72.160.86.59 (talk) 04:33, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, if you'd ever been to an arcade, you'd know that the game was released in American arcades as Garou: Mark of the Wolves. It was only the Dreamcast version that was released as Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves.72.130.31.197 (talk) 08:26, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"well-balanced roster of characters"

[edit]

I don't know who added this but boy is it way off, Garou is one of the worst balanced fighting games ever. --AnY FOUR! (talk) 19:59, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
