Why?
[edit]Why does this have a volcano template?? --euyyn 21:34, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- Because the entire island is a large volcano which rises from the seafloor. --Seattle Skier (talk) 08:33, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Flag
[edit]Is this subsection really needed? We can see the colors are green and white. I would understand it being there if it said the meanings for the colors and pattern, but otherwise it just seems useless. Futuremyst 18:28, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
I have added a Flag of Fuerteventura section with subsection Coat of arms, it gives details of the heraldry of the coat of arms, but I couldn't easily locate a meaning of the colours, if anyone knows do add it. Ray3055 (talk) 21:43, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
Fortunate Isles
[edit]I temporarily removed the following text
In 850 BC, the island was mentioned by Homer in the Odyssey, the Canary Islands as Insulae Fortunatae.
as it lacked references and I have a number of other problems with it. Firstly, Homer didn't write in Latin (but the wikilinked "Fortunate Isles" article gives the greek which is helpful). Should give the Greek and an English equivalent if anything. Secondly, according to the wikilinked article, the identification of the Fortunate Isles is in doubt, so this ought to be mentioned at least.
Can anyone supply references so that this useful material can be restored? CecilWard (talk) 11:09, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Translation of Fuerteventura
[edit]Someone might want to double check the translation of "Fuerteventura". My Spanish still needs some work, but I'm pretty sure it means "Strong Fortune" (literally) and not "Strong Wind" which would look like Fuerteviento. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bstoopmarine (talk • contribs) 16:00, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
No it means Wild or Strong Wind - Fuerte Ventura from Fuerte - Strong Wild. I assure you as I am Spanish! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.244.55.105 (talk) 13:17, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, I was being humble. I'm fluent in Spanish. Viento means wind, ventura means fortune. It should be corrected.Bstoopmarine (talk) 18:48, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
As it stands the opening statement is that it means fortune and a later statement is that it means wind. In lieu of any undisputable evidence proving one or the other then both should be updated to indicate that other theories exist — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.128.164.126 (talk) 08:59, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
Unclear/undocumented sentence
[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians, the following sentence: "Although this trade almost never reversed in the inhabitants of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote (due to the fact that the landowners of these islands profited from this activity), producing periods of famine, so the population of these islands He had to travel to Tenerife and Gran Canaria to try to improve his luck." in the Economy section of this article has some clear grammatical problems, plus lacks general sense, and a cited source. It is possibly an effect of a poor translation from Spanish, a language which I don't master. Anybody who can fix this please help.
Thanks! Nicola.Manini (talk) 09:10, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

Citation need raised, clarification wanted - Naked bathing
[edit]Naked sun bathing and swimming are the norm almost on all beaches.
I have raised a citation need to encourage better informed users to demonstrate the extent of nude beaches on the island with a reliable source, with figures if available. Also the sentence may need a rephrase as the sentence could be read to mean either nudity is almost allowed on the beaches or it is allowed on most beaches on the island. (I had a work colleague who has holidayed there and used a nude beach but his accounts led me to think there were beaches where it was strictly clothed bathing only.) It is best to be unambiguous to avoid misleading potential visitors.Cloptonson (talk) 06:47, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
