Birthdate[edit]

I had to infer David-Lloyd's birth year from the BBC interview linked in the article. Both that (October 2006) and the South Wales Argus piece (May 2006) give his age as 25, which probably means that he was born in 1981, but it's also possible that he's got a birthday in November or December (or even late October) and he was born in 1980. If anyone knows his actual birthdate, please add it to the article. Thanks! —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 06:22, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

From what I remember, Gareth's birthday was only a few weeks off mine. I'm not sure if it was March or April, but he was definitely the same age as me. That makes it 1981. -—Minimax

flag and Wales vs. South Wales[edit]

Owain (talk · contribs) recently removed the Welsh flag from the infobox, and changed "Wales" to "South Wales".[1] I had copied the infobox and flag from Eve Myles' page, and I thought that it was a fairly standard way of indicating an actor's nationality. Is there a reason why the flag shouldn't be on David-Lloyd's page? Is it more usual to refer to Newport as "South Wales" instead of "Wales"? I'm just an ignorant Yank, and I'm not always up on the ins and outs of identity politics in the UK. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 03:00, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

I think, speaking as an Englishman, any "South Wales v Wales" debate would be more of an internal Welsh thing than a UK thing! But getting that specific just seems ludicrous to me — I can see why people from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales would want to be credited as such rather than as "British", but to go beyond that is a bit far. There's something of a north-south divide in England too, after all, but you don't see anyone trying to put "Northern England" as Christopher Eccleston's nationality, for example. Well, there are several Newports, though the one referred to here is the largest by a very long way. "South Wales" has more connotations than just the southern 50% of the country, meaning more the industrial southeast. The other Newport I'm thinking of is a little place, also in south Wales, but in the south west which would usually be referred to as "West Wales". Anyway, "Wales" is a perfectly good description, if you're referring to the Newport which is the third-largest city! -- Arwel (talk) 17:14, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Ah — I didn't realise that there was more than one Newport in Wales. What about the flag? —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 22:01, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
I don't see any reason not to have it. -- Arwel (talk) 22:41, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
I've restored it. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 23:23, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Yep - two Newports - one is a small place in Pembrokeshire (I think). The other is this one. It was easier when it was part of Gwent, but when it became a unitary authority, it was a bit difficult to name it unambiguously, so most people settled on 'South Wales'. It's been easier since it became a city. -- Minimax

Mine All Mine[edit]

I've restored the reference to "Yanto" Jones in Mine All Mine; IMDb doesn't seem to have incidental characters listed for this series, but TV.com does, and mentions the role. Also, this Google cache from a production GD-L was in at Hampstead Theatre lists "Mine All Mine" among his theatre work. I think that's good enough. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 02:18, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

OK, but is there any actual written confirmation from an official source that the character was actually called "Yanto"? I can't conceive that anyone familiar with Welsh names, like RTD, would mis-spell Ianto... -- Arwel (talk) 02:29, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Hmm... here's another source that gives "Yanto", but I'm not sure how reliable it is. Red Production Company's "Mine All Mine" page doesn't give cast listings, and ITV doesn't seem to have a page for the programme any more. Our best bet may be for someone who has the programme on DVD to check the credits themselves: it may be borderline original research, but at least we'll be accurate. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 03:20, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I'd seen tv-show-guide.com too, but I don't think I would consider it definitive for something like this - it looks rather fansite-ish. -- Arwel (talk) 12:50, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, this may technically be original research, but I've purchased a copy of Mine All Mine, and the credits for episode 5 do say "Yanto Jones". —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 01:17, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Ye gods! Illiterate morons... -- Arwel (talk) 01:33, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
The character of "Yanto" in Mine All Mine was a somewhat vacuous pretty-boy; is it possible that RTD deliberately chose an "illiterate" spelling of the name? —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 01:45, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
You'd have to ask RTD, I suspect! Anyway, you win, I won't object to you mentioning it! :) -- Arwel (talk) 02:00, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
In the credits for Torchwood the name is spelt "Ianto" Jones not "Yanto". ALexL33 20:19, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Yes, but we're talking about Mine All Mine here, not Torchwood. -- Arwel (talk) 01:16, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Photo needed[edit]

There is a picture of Gareth playing Ianto Jones on the article of the same name. I know ideally we would like a photo of Gareth being himself rarther than in character but would this not do at least until we find a better one? yettie0711 16:23, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
