Citations

[edit]

This is a holding area for citations. I'll be integrating a bunch of these soon. — Alan De Smet | Talk 02:16, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm done integrating citations for now; if anyone is feeling inspired, please help! Also, if you're removing citations from the main article (say, because they seem totally unnecessary), please re-add them here. They're useful to have just in case, and help establish notability. — Alan De Smet | Talk 03:16, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Establishing notability is a good idea. I thought the article was a WP:VANITY/promotional article when it first popped up on a list of new articles about Wisconsin. I almost nominated it for deletion, but decided to give it a chance since I'm in favor of keeping marginal things. I'm glad I gave this article the benefit of the doubt. I see that it's turning into an article that everyone should want to keep, and I am satisfied enough to add it to WikiProject Wisconsin. It's good to keep a list of solid reliable references to demonstrate its notability if needed. Royalbroil 04:36, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Retrieved 2008-10-02. - Includes photos of the costume contest, and may be a good external link for that. Article (and possibly photos!) are under a CC-BY-SA license, we may be able to reuse the photos!
  • Angileri, Jeff (2008-09-28). "People Get Their Geek On". Fox 47. WMSN. Archived from the original on 2008-10-02. Retrieved 2008-10-02. - "grew so much from last year, they had to use two buildings on campus to hold all of the exhibits." Mentions "Steam Century Mystery" game and other events.
  • VanEgeren, Jessica (2008-09-29). "Hundreds embrace their inner geek". The Capital Times. Capital Newspapers. Archived from the original on 2008-10-02. Retrieved 2008-10-02. - I think the article is also in the print version; may be worth checking and adding as a citation. Brief bit about Belegarth Medieval Combat Society. "last year, 1,800 people attended the two-day event, Eichhorst said. By midday Sunday, 900 people had attended this year's Geek.kon convention." - the 900 people is hard to reconcile with the claims that it's larger. May be preliminary counts.

(It is a humor newspaper, but the article appears in the serious "A.V. Club" section.) It's mostly worth noting as evidence of the notability of the convention.
