Is the identity of the creature known?

Do we know what the animal with a square face mentioned in the quotation is? I would assume not a bear, because that would likely be well known. A wolverine? -- Cimon Avaro; on a pogostick. 18:30, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The saiga antelope lives in the area and has a distinctive oblong face with right-angled corners. But this source, Herodotus and the Caspian (1918), says the animals in question are "obviously seals".  Card Zero  (talk) 16:06, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Author D added unsourced content [1] with peculiar self flagged request for sources. It may be acute form of amnesia, while one adding sentence forgetting source where from the thesis are excerpted, but since such syndrome would be insane and forgivable more probable is plain violation of wp:wer which in contrast can't be accepted according to en.wikipedia.org policies. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.90.197.244 (talk) 09:09, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
