Peer Review

[edit]

Great article with great structure. A lot of information that covers the topic very well. I would suggest putting the number of views female athletes get compared to male athletes. This would be a major factor in their pay. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oqazi1 (talkcontribs) 01:53, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Just a detail

[edit]

This article is utter bs. It compares the best professional leagues with minor ones. In most sports, the so-called masculine category is actually open to anyone able to play at a certain level regardless of their sex, that is, any woman can do it and earn as much as a man if she is good enough. Since this does not happen often, there are feminine leagues to give women a chance to play sports in fair conditions. Audience, sponsors and any one else, however, are more interested in elite sports than championships tailored to let sub-standard players have a go. The Williams and that unknown 3rd rate masculine player's affair should give you an idea of what place occupy women sports in the big picture. Enjoy your sports, but don't ask to earn as a pro when an the average high school player can beat the best feminine player in the world any time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.178.14.85 (talk) 18:28, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Article Suggestions

[edit]

Hello! I have a few suggestion which I believe will enhance the article. First, I would love to create a section about the history of the gender pay gap in sports. This would detail all major cases of gender inequalities in sport going back to the 1940's. Also, I would love to go into detail on the recent court cases which have aimed to solve these inequalities, such as the lawsuit raised by Hope Solo. Lastly, I would like to add a section on the future of women's pay in sports and the hopes of many current female athletes and fans. Thank you WPGALLO (talk) 03:00, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Available Statistics Widely Ignored

[edit]

This article is very clearly biased in the pursuit of a narrative, specifically in regards to the portion under, "Economic return." When pointing out the percentage of revenue that WNBA players take home, it fails to mention that revenue isn't the argument, it's profit. The WNBA has lost an average of $10 million a year since it's inception, and is only sustainable through supplemental payments from the NBA. It is extremely disingenuous to not present all of the facts in regard to this ongoing argument. Proper context should be given, not the writer(s) cherry-picking numbers that support their argument(s). Nevermind Cody (talk) 18:18, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Debate on Gender Pay Gap

[edit]

Oughtn’t there be a section outlining the ongoing debate about the gender pay gap? The article takes for granted that closing the gender pay gap would reflect gender equality and therefore be good, but this is disputed both morally and mathematically.

There should be a section discussing why women should earn equal pay (healthy role models, competitive spirit) as well as criticisms (unequal ability, unprofitability, smaller talent pool).

There should also be a section about instances where women outearn men (gymnastics, tennis, volleyball) and how those sports typically display more sexualized outfits. 108.94.140.253 (talk) 17:09, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
