Global Feminism

[edit]

I think there needs to be more added to this article. I think that all global feminism movements around the world should be posted on this article. --Grrrlriot (talk) 23:57, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Grrrlriot, I think some information should be added about other movements. I'm planning to add a table listing some preliminary information, focusing on countries outside the US. ClementineGal (talk) 17:42, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Global Feminists adopt global causes and start movements which seek to dismantle the currently predominant structures of global patriarchy"- Bias statement which asserts that there are currently predominant structures of male domination. Should be more objective eg "seek to dismantle structures percieved as globally patriarchial" (or words to that effect) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.57.124.131 (talk) 05:22, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article should provide the many different opressive factors relating to global feminism, particularity transnational mothering. My addition of "Transnational mothering" supports the phenomena of motherhood in a transnational and contemporary time, and can apply to feminist theories of motherhood and the structural constraints for foreign women. The section implys that globalization does not just effect the technological aspect of manufacturing, but also the exploitation of women’s bodies, a feminist point of view that reveals a rise of concern towards the issues migrant women face. I think this article should compare and contrast between theory and social structures, also explain the many more important hardships women expirience world wide. However, it flows accordingly and is a great read to further expand knowledge on the progression of women's rights. (142.150.44.54 (talk) 17:49, 4 April 2013 (UTC))[reply]

I am planning on adding a few sentences to this section about how motherhood and feminism have been linked by Catherine Acholonu under her concept "Motherism". I feel it's intertwined with your concept of transnational mothering enough to belong in the same section. ClementineGal (talk) 22:22, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Misogynistic cultural practices

Men are also victims of genital mutilation and human trafficking, so they are also misandristic practices. JCDenton2052 (talk) 03:35, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Relation to transnational feminism

[edit]

Hi all, I was wondering if this page is necessary because of the transnational feminism page.

When reading feminist texts, I've come across the phraes "global feminism" as describing essentially what is listed as "liberal feminism" on wikipedia: a paradigm that promotes the idea of a "global sisterhood", with universal values of what matters for women, like paid work. This paradigm does not consider the cultural differences between different nations. It seems that the global feminism described here does not describe that sort of feminism and is rather more about transnational feminism.

A reason why I think that we should just get rid of this article and count it as transnational feminism is because I feel "transnational" has implications more dedicated to respecting pluralistic views than does "global". After all, the term that gets negative connotations is "global" sisterhood, and a lot of people describes "global"ization as a process in which all societies meld into a single world society. Furthermore, one of the only sections in this article is about "transnational" mothering, not "global" mothering.

What do you guys think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Angelaslin (talkcontribs) 05:05, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
