- Bothrops insularis → Golden Lancehead — I'm pretty sure the policy is common names where common names exist. DevinOfGreatness (talk) 19:01, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- Support per WP:COMMONNAME. --Born2cycle (talk) 05:39, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. Policy is to use the name most commonly used in reliable sources. A Google Scholar search will give a very rough idea of what reliable sources call this topic: "golden lancehead":15 hits; "Bothrops insularis": 390 hits. The scientific name also smashes the vernacular name on a vanilla Google test, whether restricted to English only or not. No matter how you look at it, the scientific name is much more commonly used than the vernacular name. Hesperian 04:50, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME, agree with Hesperian on all counts. Caissaca (talk) 09:02, 29 June 2009 (UTC)Caissaca

Why no photo?
[edit]This Snake is all over the news lately as is the Island and this page is linked to in the articles on other websites. I was hoping to see a photo. I know there are oftenproblems with getting a properly copyright-free pic, but it would be great to have one for this snake. LiPollis (talk) 01:51, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
Fatalities?
[edit]The idea that no fatality from a bite has been recorded is contradictory to information found elsewhere on wikipedia, see Ilha da Queimada Grande — Preceding unsigned comment added by OMolokaiO (talk • contribs) 11:13, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
- There doesn't currently seem to be anything currently in the Ilha da Queimada Grande that contradicts that. — BarrelProof (talk) 02:35, 30 September 2023 (UTC)

Bothrops insularis → Golden lancehead – Per WP:NCFAUNA, vernacular names should usually be used. This species has a single unambiguous vernacular name, and a case-insensitive NGram shows that the vernacular name is more commonly used in recent English-language books than the scientific name. — BarrelProof (talk) 01:41, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
- Support per WP:COMMONNAME,
but "Lancehead" should be capitalized.Rreagan007 (talk) 15:02, 28 September 2023 (UTC)- I believe WP:NCFAUNACAPS suggests lowercase. — BarrelProof (talk) 15:18, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
- So it does. Rreagan007 (talk) 16:15, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
