Stuff To Do:

[edit]

Here is a list of stuff we need to do to improve the article to FA status(for anyone who is reading);

Add little sub headings, like Battle of the Marne, Le Cateau etc etc...

Expand most of the article to lengthen it out.

Get stats, numbers of dead etc.

Is there any way we can brighten up the pic of british dead?

I know for a fact people got medals for their actions during this stage in the war, we should put something on that.

We should write about the previous & next stages of the war (I think it was battles of the frontiers before the Great Retreat & after it I think it was the race to the sea?)

Basically writing about anything, even Maubeuge.

Any questions or suggestions contact me or R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine).

[edit]

This article was nominated for Wikipedia:Version 0.5 I failed this article because it's too short, and it has no references. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 06:15, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Added some material from GOH 1914 I and pasted some detail from newer pages, added references. Plenty more to do, particularly the backround, Prelude and Aftermath sections.Keith-264 (talk) 16:13, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Action of Élouges, 24 August
Rearguard Action of Solesmes, 25 August
Affair of Landrecies, 25 August

Needs

[edit]

The article is short of an analysis section to put the retreat into context, more on the French as it's still Anglocentric and the number data to be added.Keith-264 (talk) 06:38, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Date for the end of the retreat

[edit]

In the article the infobox states that the retreat went on until 28 September. In The First World War by John Keegan on page 113 he describes Joffre's general instruction No. 6, which were issued 4 September and which clearly call off the retreat as it prepares for counterattack. I thus suggest that the date for the end of the retreat is changed to 5 September. Ulflarsen (talk) 18:42, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think that 28 September comes from the Official History but I'll check. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 18:59, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think I must have got lost in the dates, because its 24 August to 5 Sep, not 28 August or 28 September. Thanks for spotting it. Keith-264 (talk) 19:33, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
