Nephew of William Robson Moffitt

[edit]

I would like to further my knowledge of My Mothers Brother & my Uncle William Robson Moffitt , I know that he served on the HMAS Patricia Cam out of Darwin & that he was lost at sea after a direct bombing of the Patricia Cam , I was lead to believe that he was responsible for saving a few survivors lives & then perished himself during the night.. My Grandfather & Grandmother were bitter & scathing regarding the lack of information afforded them by the then government , as my other Uncle Jack Moffitt was conscipted into the Royal British Navy & served his time in Europe they were anxious & concerned that he would survive ,to lose two sons would have been a tragedy & would have broken them entirely .

However my goal is to establish as much as the facts as I can regarding WILLIAM ROBSON MOFFITT .

Are you able to help me in corresponding with any of the survivors that are still alive .

I would also like to enquire as to any Medals that were awarded to my Uncle.. our family have no history regarding this.

Yours Sincerely

William Robson Metcalf

Wikipedia isn't a good place to conduct family research. I'd suggest that you look for his records at the National Australian Archives - they've been digitialised and are available here but are very limited and/or try the Australian War Memorial's research centre. I think that the Department of Defence has a section which can provide information on medals, but have no idea what their contact details are - the AWM will have this though.
