Name
[edit]I doubt his current name is Hans Óttar Lindberg Tómasson. He is registered in Danish and international player lists as Hans Ottar Lindberg, and I think it would be more appropriate to go by that. The Icelandic newspaper article the long name is taken from only says that this is the name he was registered by at his birth, but he switched to Danish citizenship when he was 18 and presumably dropped the Icelandic patronymic then (it would be perceived as his surname in Denmark and thus be impractical - I doubt he registered Tómasson as his surname when he applied for citizenship), he may also have danicized the spelling of Óttar at that occasion, though that is more uncertain. Lindberg is the surname of his Faroese paternal grandparents, who immigrated to Iceland in the mid-1940s, and clearly the family name.--Batmacumba (talk) 10:29, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
- His full name is officially Hans Óttar Lindberg Tómasson, his formal name and his Icelandic descent is addressed and explained in this news report from the Icelandic Broadcast Company (RÚV - Ríkisútvarpið) which is the national and goverment run media in Iceland - https://www.ruv.is/frett/hans-lindberg-skipt-ut-ur-danska-hopnum. Will edit article accordingly. Hallihg (talk) 11:23, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
