Birth and death years

[edit]

Birth and death years are very uncertain. Coupland assumes that there were two Haralds, belonging to different generations, and that the one murdered in 852 was the younger one. The older one was probably born much earlier than 790, because several of his cousins were dead by 812. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 19:37, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A few things are said about the Harald who died in 852: at some time earlier he had fled from king Horik, commended himself to Louis and had been baptized. After this he had lived among the Franks faithfully 'for several years'. Harald fled from king Horik in 826-827, had commended himself to Louis and was baptized 826. Coupland says of this: "Clearly this was not Rorik's brother, since the same annal reported his death under the year 850 [as being some time prior]. Certainly the order of events closely parallels King Harald's career." Harald's cousins (and brothers) dying 810-815 doesn't have to mean they were old at all, since they were all killed in battle. Furthermore King Horik the Elder (another cousin) the son of King Godefrid died in 854, while some of his brothers were killed in the 810s aswell.Csprrr (talk) 20:48, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone know the circumstances of Harald's conversion to Christianity? Mikepope (talk) 03:55, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Original research

[edit]

That is an awfull lot of WP:OR here. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 07:50, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Where exactly? All claims and conclusions are based on Coupland's work. Dimadick (talk) 07:59, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article may be longer than the section about Harald Klak in "Poachers and gamekeepers". Instead of referencing that paper, it has a massive amount of footnotes to primary sources. The article now is not what one expects to find in an encyclopedia. It is much too long, for one thing. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 08:57, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

But the paper discusses the primary sources. Without them its observations are meaningless. Dimadick (talk) 15:20, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
