POV claim added to article in 2011

[edit]

I've removed the following comment/hidden text from the article and pasted it here. Comment added after the CNO and the Beginning of World War II section by user:Trekphiler in March 2011.

This is heavily POV against Stark. Nobody in DC expected Japan to attack Hawaii, & the 27 Nov "war warning" message makes that pretty damn clear: everywhere but Pearl Harbor is raised as a potential target. Even Knox disbelieved the news. Most USN senior officers did not believe IJN was capable of executing more than one major operation at once. Stark had to preserve the security of PURPLE & JN-25. Even with complete information, MacArthur was caught unprepared. And Short, not Stark, was responsible for preventing a surprise attack on the base. Have a look at Willmott's Barrier & the Javelin, Prange et al.'s December 7, 1941, & Wohlstetter's Pearl Harbor: Warning & Decision, for a start.

Why was he nicknamed "Betty?"

[edit]

Since the article mentions that his nickname was "Betty' it would be appropriate to add a section explaining the origin of the nickname. 2603:800C:3944:BC00:1898:1A1:1150:A6FB (talk) 08:33, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Middle Name "Rainsford" or "Raynsford".

[edit]

His middle name is spelled Raynsford on his gravestone at Arlington. Surely this wouldn't be left that way if it was not correct. See [1]https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/6750619/harold-raynsford-stark 71.210.209.138 (talk) 15:26, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have edited the article to correct the name, but don't know how to correct the main title of the page itself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WLHalberstadt (talkcontribs) 16:17, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
