Henry Clay Dean lived in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa during the Civil War
[edit]During the Civil War, Henry Clay Dean lived in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, not Missouri. He later moved to Keokuk, Iowa, and then to Missouri. He is buried in Rebels Cove, Missouri.
Mark Twain included a chapter on Henry Clay Dean in "Life on the Mississippi" published in 1883, where he mentions him living in Keokuk.
There is a reference to Dean in "Love and Valor - The Intimate Civil War Letters Between Captain Jacob and Emeline Ritner" in a letter dated March 15, 1863, from Emeline's mother to Emeline's father.
