Service/Branch: Order Police, not SS

[edit]

Hermann Franz joined the Police in 1920 and remained there until his arrest in 1945, his last post: Befehlshaber der Ordnungspolizei/Commander of Order Police in Norway - see 1. reference/special camp 11 "Commands & Assignments". He applied for SS-membership in 1940 (hence his "career" in the Ordungspolizei) but he never joined (was not assigned to) the SS-administration, as was. f.e. Heydrich, or Kaltenbrunner, or soldiers of the Waffen-SS. When he applied for SS-membership he was commander of the Police Training Battalion in Dresden and he remained in this post until July 1941 when he was assigned as commander of the Polizei-Regiment-Süd (July 1941 until July 1942), the following year he was commander of the Polizei-Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 18, then he became Befehlshaber der Ordnungspolizei in Greece. In autumn 1944 he was HSSP of Greece for one month - still police and not SS-administration - then Befehlshaber der Ordnungspolizei in Norway.... Dienstgradangleichung: When a police officer of Ordnungspolizei applied for SS-membership he got an additional rank equivalent to the the police-rank, it was an additional title, nothing more. In office he was adressed by his police rank, signed in his police-rank and had to wear the police uniform. (It was different when a policeman of the Sicherheitspolizei joined the SS, in these cases an equivalent SS-title was not automatically given because of the overlapping of Sipo and SS-SD administration). --Aschland (talk) 08:04, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Service/Branch: Order Police, not SS H. Franz was and remained officer of the uniformed police. On duty he had to wear his police-uniform, only a small SS-sticker was allowed to be attached below the left breast pocket.
