Duplicate page (merger proposal)
[edit]Highland Creek (Lake Ontario) was recently created. It is a duplicate of this page with some additions. There is no need for two articles. Furthermore there is no need to move it to a sub-designation because there is no other Highland Creek article. EncyclopediaUpdaticus (talk) 11:41, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- The pre-existing Highland Creek article treats a river and a place, which should be properly treated in two separate articles. In addition, when researching the river on the Atlas of Canada, I discovered several Highland Creeks just in the province of Ontario alone. Thus, I created the new article with the sub-designation "Lake Ontario", porting old information from "Highland Creek" and adding in the results of new research. It is my intention to create a new article about the place, perhaps as "Highland Creek, Toronto"; and to change the pre-existing article "Highland Creek" into a disambiguation page, in which one would reference the new articles, including the place, and the other Highland Creeks discovered in Ontario. All this would obviously mean not merging this new article back in. I just haven't gotten around to the additional changes yet. My fault as it has clearly caused some confusion. Any other comments or suggestions welcomed. papageno (talk) 06:49, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- I have removed the mergeto proposal. The existing content from the proposed page to merge to, Highland Creek has been separated into this article for the river, and Highland Creek, Toronto for the community. Highland Creek has been made a disambiguation page. papageno (talk) 20:30, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Enjoy! Part 2 Chapter 3 includes a map of most of Scarborough, showing when each area of the city was constructed. Of note is the Highland Creek Valley between New Kingston Road and Lawrence, which shows as developed in the 1950s. A road map from the early 50s[1] shows a bunch of streets in the valley here, including one named Highland Creek Drive (which is still labelled as such in Google Maps), which is now the trail entering Colonel Danforth Park. Also note on Beechgrove, if you follow it east from Kingston to where it turns south to Lawrence, a road continues east into the woods. This is also mapped in the 50s as Colborne or Colbourg Street.
My assumption, based on what happened around the city, is that this neighbourhood was either never built (and only the streets laid), or it was. In either case, I'd make a educated guess that Hurricane Hazel washed it away.
