List guideline(s)

[edit]

Please review the Wikipedia:List guideline and Wikipedia:Lists (stand-alone lists) pages prior to making any changes to this article. The previous format violated scads of these style guide's suggestions. - brenneman 07:01, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article isn't supposed to be a literal list of individual's names. It is meant to be an article to collectively summarise each person's role. Many of the people listed did not warrant their own article and so this was a good place to put them all together. Perhaps it is just the fact that the article name starts with 'List of' that is causing this issue. It does seem a shame to delete a load of information just because it doesn't fit into a style guide! I will revert back to reinclude the information then move the article to Hillsong musicians. Changing the name won't change the content, and unless you have sources on the topic of hillsong musicians you'll be synthesing something from disparate sources. While a list isn't original research per se you'll then be in the position where if I removed everything that doesn't have reliabel sources on the topic, I'll be left with... a list of musicians. The information belongs in the parent articles. - brenneman 23:21, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't supposed to be a list article and therefore it doesn't have to comply to the list guidelines. If more information is required about the topic then perhaps a stub or similar tag could be added, not just blantantly deleting information. The parent article is already quite large and contains a short summarising paragraph about the musicians. This article is meant to contain more detailed information about the individuals, some of whom wouldn't qualify for their own article. By trying to enforce this guideline you are just deleting information which wouldn't belong anywhere else. If you do not agree, please let's open this to discussion with other people before you revert. Thanks Marky1981 10:59, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The "Marky" version appears to be a much more useful and interesting article than the "brenneman" version. I don't see anything significant in the "Marky" version that is not verifiable (as distinct from verified, cited or currently referenced). The "brenneman" version is probably served by a category, as it contains only blue links for the most significant people. Instead of reverting back and forth, try discussing what should or should not be in this article, and why. Isn't "...synthesing something from disparate sources" the purpose of any article with multiple sources? --Scott Davis Talk 12:19, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
