[edit]
This is an excellent article, but it has been lifted from the website of the government of Maharashtra. It needs to be substantially revised and verified from external sources.Fconaway 18:56, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

For example, the following passage is highly doubtful:
The social reform movement of 19th century Maharashtra was the result of the impact of Western education on the elite of Mumbai and Pune. Reformists tried to examine critically their social system and religious beliefs and gave priority to social reform as against political freedom.
The ostensible cause being: Western education? There's more at work here. As Romesh Dutt observed, the political changes came from British military action, from which institutional changes would follow necessarily. Political freedom was not "in the picture", or not "on the cards", so that's a false antinomy. Cf. Rabindranath Tagore, Nationalism (1917; repr., Westport, Conn.: Greenwood Press, 1973), 60; also, his Greater India (Madras: S. Ganesan, 1921).Fconaway 18:49, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Lack of Interest
[edit]I wonder why there is such a lack of interest by Wikipedia editors on this article. Jonathansammy (talk) 22:37, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
External links modified
[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on History of Maharashtra. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}}

to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
- Added archive http://web.archive.org/web/20070121015805/http://www.bhashaindia.com:80/Patrons/LanguageTech/Marathi.aspx to http://www.bhashaindia.com/Patrons/LanguageTech/Marathi.aspx
When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}

Maratha Navy
[edit]Currently the naval arm of the Marathas has no mention at all, which certainly deserves a mention. Hence I am adding it (under Maratha Empire). Kindly do not make changes without discussing on talk page.

Maharashtra since 1960
[edit]I am in the process adding content to this section.I have added subsections for different topics covered in the section.This is mainly to make it easy for myself and other editors to make topic wise additions rather than get everything jumbled up.Once we have all the sections, we can remove the sub-headings in the section to make it consistent with the rest of the article.
Although a lot of content in this section has been covered in other articles, here we should be only talking about history of particular topic.For example, vada pav is considered a quintessential Maharashtrian dish but it is a recent invention and the history of how it became popular should be part of the culture /cuisine section.Jonathansammy (talk) 16:52, 3 August 2019 (UTC)Thanks.
