Removal from Athletics Stadiums category

[edit]

I removed this from the category for United kingdom athletics stadiums as i am not aware of that any facilites are available for track and field athletics or have ever been available here. If any one knows any different please put the link back and include info in article Waacstats 08:34, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I note that George Michael will be performing a concert at the stadium in June. Is this a first for the stadium, or has it hosted other musical acts before? Should there be a section on this? Angmering 22:46, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Funnily enough, George's mate Elton John is playing there in May! These aren't the first pop concerts to be played at Home Park, but they are the first in around 20 years. In the late 1980s, there was a one-day rock festival held there called "Plymouth Rock", which was an unmitigated disaster - mainly because some of the bigger names advertised (including, I think, Siouxsie & The Banshees and The Damned) pulled out at short notice. Ticket sales died away, other (less big, but still well-known) bands followed suit and although the gig went ahead with the few remaining acts, the attendance was in the hundreds - they'd been hoping for around 10-15,000! --GR Davies 23:58, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds interesting; I shall see if any sources can be dug up for this so that it can be referenced in the article. Angmering 07:25, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Revamp

[edit]

I'm currently working on creating an article which is worthy of this stadium. I'm a bit surprised it hasn't been done before now, but I'm passionate about the club and its a major part of our history so I thought I would do it, and also, the current page is a mere Copy-paste from a different website. I have alot of respect for that website, its a fantastic resource for statistics and certain information, but the page which has been copied from provides a brief history at best. I look at other clubs articles on their stadiums which are top quality and I feel this one should be up there with them. One day I would like this to attain Featured Article status. I'm nearly there in terms of getting the article up so I thought now would be a good time to say, so nobody gets startled although I can't see why they would, considering what is currently there. Thankyou for your time. Argyle 4 Life (talk) 03:22, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review-type feedback

[edit]

Hi, I hadn't really looked at the old article, but judging from a quick scan of the history, you've made a vast improvement. You're probably in a better position than most now, because you haven't said what the "copy-paste" website was - this is a breach of wp:copyvio as you've pointed out. Try to make sure that all the text now is new, and not left over from a copy-paste version. If there is, and it's hard to de-construct, the old article can be reverted/back-tracked no matter how much work you've done in the meantime (I've seen it happen). If it is all fresh/new/referenced then it'll be fine.

Take care not to wp:overlink to articles that don't really enhance this one - England is becoming frequently less linked now, as it is not really relevant to this article, and most people know what/where England/UK is. I didn't see how sport or concert were really relevant either so I removed them. Also try to avoid duplication of links, Luftwaffe I saw twice for example. If they are important topics, once or twice (especially in the lead) is fine, so long as there is sufficient text in between - there is no point linking the same word in consecutive sections for example.

I may have a further look when I get a bit of time (it's a long time since I last went to Home Park!) but it's a great improvement, so well done!—MDCollins (talk) 22:18, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I must admit that overlinking has been a bad habit of mine. When I'm working on a sizeable piece of writing I tend to forget that I've linked certain words earlier in the piece. Since I did this, a few weeks ago now, I think my tendancy to do it has decreased. I appreciate the feedback and input, it'll only make the article better. I would love to be able to link certain references to the official website, the capacity of each stand is estimated from what I've heard in the past, but alas, there isn't a wealth of information on there.
