Messing with the plot and characters
[edit]Someone messed with the plot and character sections with false information. I took the time to correct the plot, but someone else will have to fix the characters section! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.174.146.212 (talk) 00:15, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but I think some of the in-depth characterization and (what I deem to be) speculative analysis extends beyond the purposes and appropriateness of a Wikipedia article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Moterola4 (talk • contribs) 04:04, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
I visited the official site, and the character profiles here look almost like they were cut and pasted from the site. Is that allowed? BTW not a user65.35.180.133 (talk) 03:27, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
I fixed up Jojo's paragraph, adding more information about the Symphonophone (named in the commentary) as well as removed the bit about 'Jojo's ability to find rhythm in everything' (I don't know where it came from, but it just sounds like someone just took it out of a fanfiction). Not a user...
Teaser Trailer Release
[edit]"The Teaser trailer was released on July 27, 2007."
um...that's kind of impossible (Today is June 28th) I'm assuming it was released already, but I don't know for sure, could someone confirm/put the right date in/change from past-tense if it hasn't been released
Trivia
[edit]I removed the piece of trivia, "This is one of Jim Carrey's first computer generated films". It isn't very well expressed. Is it his first cgi film or isn't it? If the text is changed to say "This is Jim Carrey's first computer generated film", it would probably be alright to include. --Ottovonguericke 02:08, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
It mentions that this is Jim Carrey's first animated film, and voice work. He was a narrator in another movie, listed in his own wiki page, and starred as the voice in an animated film called "Itsy Bitsy Spider" So none of this is true, and should probably be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Agentsigns (talk • contribs) 05:10, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
I suggest renaming it something like "References to other Seuss Works". See Wikipedia:Trivia for more information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by UrsaLinguaBWD (talk • contribs) 03:36, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Huh?
[edit]I thought, after the Cat in the Hat, Mrs. Seuss decided against any further movie versions of Dr. Seuss books. Am I wrong? --Jnelson09 20:10, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
It looks like you are, (wrong that is)
She said no more live-action films, because Cat in the Hat had too many "adult themes." I couldn't agree more. --Tenk you veddy much. --Wack'd Talk to me! • Admire my handiwork! 15:56, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
The Previews section
[edit]I just deleted a link from the "Previews" section that appeared as "U.S.," but linked to "English" (which is a disambiguation page and should not be linked to in most cases). The entire sentence is quite confused and I didn't know how to fix the link or anything else, which is why I resorted to simply deleting the link. Feel free to restore the link, but please do not point it at English (or any other disambiguation page). Thanks. (By way of explanation, the link was coded thus: [[English|U.S.]].)--Tkynerd 23:47, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
I CAN't FID THE THEATRICAL TRAILER AYWHERE!! We only got ther in time to see Bee Movie, so I missed It!! What does it reveal? 71.215.21.178 13:19, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
Alright. This theatrical trailer had better be with Alvin & The Chipmunks for sure, or else I'm giving up. 63.229.173.224 (talk) 22:57, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Jesse McCartney
[edit]...also did a voice for Kingdom Hearts 2, did he not? Does that make his piece of trivia deletable? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.106.50.219 (talk) 01:28, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Normal horton-poster04-1-.jpg
[edit]Image:Normal horton-poster04-1-.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Furry Yellow Hippo
[edit]Does anybody know who the furry yellow hippo creature holding a small yellow animal is? iS THAT jOHNNY sMOOTH?
Johnny Smooth is a chihuahua. The small animal is Squeak.
Question
[edit]Why did you remove the names of Jonah Hill and Jamie Pressly's characters? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.81.96.171 (talk) 22:46, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Senseless revert
[edit]It appears that someone has reverted the edits I made and reduced the page to a load of fancruft. I was only adhering to how featured film articles are supposed to look (see Jurassic Park and Transformers (which is nominated for Featured Article) for details), so don't get mad at me for being a good contributor. Dane Cook?
[edit]Is Dane Cook really in this movie? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.91.58.29 (talk) 01:07, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm fairly certain he's not. I didn't see his name in the credits, and I don't recall a character named "Johnny Smooth." I'll remove it. Captain America 21:51, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Trivia section removal
[edit]Can I remove the trivia section? The information in this section is irrelevant to the article. EwanMclean2005 (talk) 21:54, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- I agree. One of the entries is "Ned's fish resembles the fish from The Cat in the Hat." This is very needless, because you'd find the resemblance to the Cat-in-the-Hat fish in ANY Dr. Seuss book.
The Plot
[edit]Is it me or is the plot the entire text of the actual book? Is this legal? --Erroneuz1 (talk) 09:17, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. Legality aside, the plot is waaaaay too long and desperately needs an edit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.212.99.11 (talk) 14:07, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- I shortened it.--Patrick (talk) 01:26, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Vlad is...?
[edit]I'm sorry if he is an Eagle, but he really does not look that way. He looks like a vulture. Look at real life Vultures and ESPECIALLY Beaky Buzzard and tell me that Vlad is not a Vulture, he carries not traits from an Eagle. Ub3rn008 (talk) 04:55, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- He's not an eagle. Referred to as a buzzard here [1] and a vulture here [2] --Erroneuz1 (talk) 05:22, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- I changed it.--Patrick (talk) 01:27, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Ahem, in the original book, vlad (looks like a vulture) is referred to as a "black bottomed eagle". Refer to Horton Hears a Who, by Dr. Seuss --Breton Slivka —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.109.166.195 (talk) 05:17, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Jojo and Katie in the characters section
[edit]The characters section repeatedly states that Jojo is a teenager, which I don't believe was ever confirmed in the film (it would also be impossible, unless Whos breed like rabbits). It also fails to mention that he's "the smallest Who of all", which was a major part of his role.
Katie can't actually fly. Midway through the film, Horton remarks that the more full he is of air the lighter he will be (while crossing a rickety bridge), and a scene follows where he appears to be floating. The end of the movie, where it shows Katie floating through space, was making fun of this. They're insinuating that Katie takes in enough air (by saying 'ah') over the course of the film that she floated away.

Underlying Themes?
[edit]Seems to me that one of the themes is religion. I could just be looking too far into it, but when Sour Kangaroo says that it doesn't exist unless you can see it, feel it, or smell it, or whatever she said exactly, it was a thing about religion. Just a thought of mine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tylerhollen (talk • contribs) 01:24, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- That's original research and doesn't belong in a wiki article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.82.180.23 (talk) 17:39, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- Never said it should, I just wanted to make a comment. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tylerhollen (talk • contribs) 03:36, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Nope, you are wrong! For example: Both worlds and both protagonists are equal and the jungle is no heaven and the clumsy elephant is no god. There was definitely no religious underlying theme intended and there was also no fundamentalist pro-life theme intended with the phrase "a person's a person, no matter how small". There are clear statements from Dr. Seuss himself and after his death from his widow, that they "doesn't like people to hijack Dr. Seuss characters or material to front their own points of view". The story is just about anti-isolationism (for the USA today more important than ever ;) and tolerance for different races, cultures and views.
- Not sure how valuable this comment is in a discussion of "underlying themes", especially since this is the article about the film. Refer to Literary criticism for for a discussion of the debate between authorial intent and the so-called Intentional Fallacy. You can debate the merits of an interpretation, but saying flatly that someone is wrong when they state their opinion is counterproductive to your own argument. The editor is very clear that comments were "thoughts" meant for the talk page only. Also, if you're going to take it upon yourself to speak for someone else, please cite a source, and always please sign your comments. Opusaug (talk) 18:18, 25 December 2018 (UTC)
Rhyming Article
[edit]Just for giggles, I think part of this article (probably the plot section?) should rhyme, Suess style.
Mr.troughton (talk) 21:25, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
But that's not neccesary. I don't think Wikipedia changes their articles 'just for giggles'
More Trivia
[edit]While being bombarded with bananas's, Horton mentions he 'loves the smell of banana's in the morning', a nice reference to Apocalypse Now --195.169.225.32 (talk) 22:18, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Removal of section
[edit]I jujst removed the DVD/Blu-Ray release section due to some research I did. It had no references for the date of the release, and I tried to find one for it. I only found a september release here.... Can anyone verify that the previous edit was correct? Edit I made is located here: [3] Stealth (talk) 10:38, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- We now have a new release date for the DVD. December 9th?! December?! What happened to DVDs being released like 3 months after the theatrical run?!?!? People will have forgotten about this by then! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.142.51.213 (talk) 13:12, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Clone Article
[edit]While searching, I noticed there's another article titled "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! (film)." Given that both articles are on the same thing, which article should give and become a redirect to the other? --24.3.79.47 (talk) 19:51, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
- The article was originally a redirect. I took the liberty of reverting it back so it redirects back here. BOVINEBOY2008 :) 21:55, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Differences between the book and the film
[edit]I think that this article is badly lacking a section which identifies the key differences/changes from book to film. How much of the story is in the book, which characters (eg: Morton isn't), etc. That's certainly what I came to this article after seeing the film to find out, as I haven't yet read the book. Genedecanter (talk) 22:48, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
- Such sections should be avoided, as they are considered to in-universe and original research. Unless, that is, there are sources explaining why the filmmakers decided to dis/include certain scenes. BOVINEBOY2008 :) 23:39, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
- Perhaps it needn't be a separate section, but since this film is an adaptation of a book then info about the adaptation, how faithful, what has been added/changed etc. is surely highly relevant, and of great interest to most readers. Agreed it ought to be sourced from interviews/DVD bonus features or similar so as to avoid being OR, but without this info the article feels incomplete. Genedecanter (talk) 21:19, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
- Certainly, it is an important part of the information about this film. The article is missing a development section, which is where this information would most excellently fit. BOVINEBOY2008 :) 21:25, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
