I've removed a large piece of material on Bell's photography, which was written in a non-encyclopedic, non-NPOV review style. Statements such as "he communicates the fervor of the music" and "Bell's fearless pursuit of the truth" are not statements of fact, but of opinion; if they're to be included in the article, they should be attributed, and they should come in the context of a factual account—where Bell lived, what kinds of things he was photographing, where his work was appearing, etc. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough factual material in the excised sections to stitch together into a capsule biography. I'm acutely aware that what I've left behind is a sorry third-rate stub, but at least it's a sorry third-rate stub that adheres to WP policies and not an editor's essay.
There was a contradiction between a statement in the original lead and one in the biography section: one said that Bell was born in the West Indies, the other that he was born in NY. Neither was sourced; I chose the latter somewhat arbitrarily, since it appeared to give more detail. The matter needs to be researched, corrected if necessary, and furnished with a citation.
