wouldn't it be cool to put the historical and contemporary photos side by side? - I'll see if I can figure out how, and if it works or not.... :-) (thanks for the modern pic. Adam!) Privatemusings (talk) 06:51, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that, I also have plenty of other pics taken around the city. Also there is a way to put the pictures side by side by using a double image template. I don't think it is possible to have them side by side in the info box though. There is an example of a double image template in the Railway Square, Sydney article. When I get some more time tomorrow I could look into it for you. Cheers ***Adam*** 11:01, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
the two pic.s at St._Andrew's_Cathedral,_Sydney work (almost) quite well too - being almost the same angle, though 100 years apart - you can really see the development etc. - maybe it's more an issue of placement on the page rather than infobox / technical stuff - I'll try and find some time to tweak the article to see what's possible.... I have managed to put the images side by side. I might need to photo shop some of the shaded area's out of the modern day pic though. I might even re visit the scene and try to match the historical pic a bit better. I might also try and match some of the other historical photos with modern day photos so people can compare the difference. Also I think the modern day pic is disappointing in the fact that it shows how we have destroyed many of our heritage buildings and replaced them with crap. Cheers***Adam*** 01:33, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
that looks great to me, Adam! - and you're right - it is depressing. See Miranda Devine in the herald today :-( Privatemusings (talk) 02:07, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you have any historical city pics that you would like to see the modern equivalent of please let me know. I plan on going into the city at least once a week (weather permitting) to practice photography. Cheers ***Adam*** 06:32, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

< I think we could pretty substantially improve the layout and pic.s at the hyde park article - there's a few historic ones in there which I personally would love to see re-taken as closely as possible - that sort of thing really appeals to me for some reason! ps. - are you a member of the 'wikimedia australia' chapter by any chance? - if not - are you interested in learning any more about it? :-) cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 10:37, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I might head off to Hyde Park tomorrow, weather and health permitting. Before I go I will print the historic pictures and take them with me and try to match them up as closely as possible. I might even try to match the the photo taken on the corner of Hunter and Elizabeth Streets and maybe a few others. I haven't heard of Wikimedia Australia chapter, may I ask what it is. Regards ***Adam*** 05:24, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

I managed to get a few modern shots of Hyde park and other places around the city. I will upload them over the next few days. Cheers***Adam*** 12:32, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

sounds great :-) - I look forward to seeing them! - if you're up for getting together in the real world, then it's worth thinking about adding your name at Wikipedia:Meetup/Sydney - where I, or someone, will happily explain how the chapter works, and why it's a good thing to get involved with :-) basically it's an organisation for those involved with, or wishing to support wiki work, and free culture in general - if that sounds like your cup of tea, then come along :-) best, Privatemusings (talk) 00:03, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I managed to get 2 shots shots in Hyde park, this on of the fountain and this one of the path that leads to the corner of College and William. I may upload in a few days as I have many different versions to go through. I will return to Hyde park at a later date to take some of the other historical pics that are in the article. As for the Wikipedia meet ups it might be a little difficult for me to get involved in that as I am very busy in the real world.

Also, I have added photos to the Rowe Street, Sydney article as well as the Pitt st and King Street articles. Check them out. Cheers ***Adam*** 01:56, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

I've just added the pics to the Hyde park article. Nothing special. I might try to retake some of them at a later date ***Adam*** 07:33, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
