I have COI because I wrote an article and posted reviews of models at the page http://www.jordanyachts.com/blog/hylas-models. I would like to use the information but cannot because it is original, first hand. There aren't any other sources on the web. I'd like to mention in history section that Jachney sold CYC to VIP Charters in 2000 and phased out the Hylas focus on being charter boats. Now, Hylas Yachts are not associated with chartering. Please advice, thoughts. Feels spammy/despicable to do it.

(1) In respect to promotional photos, what exactly does a unreplaceable image constitute. For instance, I am using a using a promotional shot of the Hylas 70 provided to me by Hylas Yachts USA. Does this fall into fair use?
(2) Some information is not reputable enough to use as a source but would interest readers. For instance, I link to a couple of blogs. I do not cite these. Is it okay to put them as external links?

- The fair use rationales look ok to me. They should perhaps be reduced in size though under the fair use guidelines. I'm not entirely sure we need photos of every boat in the article though - it makes it look like a catalogue, rather than an article. The article should focus more on the company, rather than the products IMO. WP:ELNO says that blogs shouldn't ever be linked in the external link section, there are some exceptions but without seeing the links I wouldn't be able to judge them. I'm going to remove the edit request template as you haven't written anything to be looked at, it should be used if you have rewritten an article or section and want people to look over it before adding it to the mainspace. Please also note that you shouldn't delete content from the talk page per WP:TALK, I've replaced what was removed. Any questions? Smartse (talk) 21:56, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks Smartse. I think you are right about the photos. They do not look quite right. I wonder if there is a better way to wiki-format a photo album. On the other hand, I think the photos of the boats are informative as they show what Hylas stands for. For instance, what would an article about Croc Shoes be without a photo of a pair of Crocs? Criticism

[edit]During the 1980's and 1990's, many Hylas 44, 46, 47, 49's endured the hard life of a Caribbean bareboat under Stevens Yacht Charters or Caribbean Yacht Charters. They sold yachts on a purchase and charter basis which allowed the owner to save considerably on a new Hylas. [1] While a former charter boat could have been refitted, in general they are poorly outfitted for cruising and have high engine hours.[2] The presence of high engine hours on chartered Hylas 44's is especially troubling because of the difficulty of repowering.[3]

[edit]During the 2005 Caribbean 1500 rally from Virginia to the British Virgin Islands, two 54 Hylases lost substantial portions of their rudders. The lower third of the rudders which was all foam and unattached to the partial skeg broke away under the high stress.[4]
Discussion
[edit]- I'm not sure if it is suitable - the first part is basically saying: buy a new yacht rather than a second hand one. I guess I might say this if I was selling new ones too but I don't think it is NPOV. The first 2 sentences of the second section could be added but the last two sentences sound like a WP:SYNTH to me and does seem slightly promotional: there was a problem, but not anymore, therefore buying a new yacht makes sense. Criticism sections should be avoided anyway if they can and instead content should be added where it is relevant. Anyone else have any thoughts? Smartse (talk) 13:49, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

- Well, I am honestly trying to be neutral here. I guess it is a natural bias coming through. I actually sell more used than new, so I hope that would not discourage you from buying a used one! I mean that charter history is the issue you ought to look for. I am sure you could write it better. The full skeg is a fact taken directly from the Hylas specs. The last sentence is taken verbatum from reference [4] page 359 which says "...no further problems have been reported." There is no original research there. I understand your concerns and am trying to help neutralize the article out. If even my negativity sounds promotional, yikes no wonder I am having trouble here. Thanks for your critique.
