spelling of prefectures

[edit]

A survey is being conducted at Wikipedia_talk:Manual of Style (Japan-related_articles)#Prefectures and macrons to determine which prefectures should have their spelling "macron-ized", per the existing manual of style. Oita has been changed already, and each of the others is current being discussed (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hokkaido, Hyogo, and Kochi). Please join the discussion if you wish. Mikage?

[edit]

Is Mikage a town in Hyogo Prefecture? I ask because it is allegedly the birthplace of Kano Jigoro, but it has been surprisingly difficult to confirm the existence of. I suppose that if it is a town it should be listed in this article. Thanks, Bradford44 01:08, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like Mikage was a town in Settsu Province; but, now it is just a named local area inside Kobe. ja:御影 (神戸市) is linked from Kano's Japanese article. Neier 12:58, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Seconding what Neier said. Mikage is the name of an area in Higashinada-ku, Kobe that lies between Okamoto and Rokko (Rokkomichi) neighborhoods. It is serviced by two stations that share the name. A smaller one on Hankyu and a larger (serviced by express trains) one on the Hanshin railway.

Kobe population ranking

[edit]

It looks like whether Kobe is the sixth-largest or seventh-largest city in Japan depends on if Tokyo is counted as a city. According to the List of cities in Japan page, Tokyo itself is not counted since it technically is not a city, but the special wards of Tokyo do appear as the highest-ranked entry on the list. This puts Kobe in the seventh position, which also matches what is stated in the intro of the Kobe article. I've edited this article to state that Kobe is the seventh-largest city in Japan, not the sixth-largest. RubberDuckDebugger (talk) 00:09, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
