Clarification request

[edit]

The article says:

"He had personal connections within the Soviet secret police, of which he was an agent (which he remained through the 1950s), infiltrating the PCR hierarchy’s upper ranks."

This is unclear. Is it saying that Chişinevschi was an agent of the Soviet secret police and that he infiltrated the PCR? If so, "Infiltrated" doesn't seem to be the right word, since he was already on the PCR central committee. — ERcheck (talk) 18:14, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, his arrests are mentioned, but the reasons for these arrests are not. This information should be included to provide context. — ERcheck (talk) 18:18, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A note

[edit]

Aside from the arbitrary revert to a version which, one user claims, reflects "a standard" (that seems to work in articles not up to standards, and that comes into contradiction with the fact that Chişinevschi was not a pseudonym, but a legal name), the version in question also features another spurious reference to the man as "Jakob Broitman".

The name "Jakob Broitman" has thus replaced "Iosif Roitman", which is universally seen as Chişinevschi's original name. A Google books search will show that it is indicated as such by all scholars who bother to mention the issue - there are three of them: Ferenc Féhér, Dennis Deletant, Vladimir Tismăneanu. To this, I could add Victor Frunză, who also gives "Iosif Roiman" with no mention of "Jakob Broitman".

The only google books mention of "Jakob Broitman", as well as the only google books mention of "Broitman" that would refer to the subject of this article is in Traian Romanescu's Traición a Occidente, an Antisemitic conspiracy theory authored by an Iron Guard exile. The fact that this "name" is a canard is also attested by its use in a minuscule number of mentions, all in dubious sources: unrestricted google search for "jakob broitman chisinevschi" - 26 hits, which include sites as one proclaiming the existence of "a foreign Holocaust against Romanians"; a similar search for "jakob broitman kisinevski" brings one 30 hits, including the Adelaide Institute and pages that feature references to "Jakob Malik and Iosif Kisinevski". There is also the variety "Ios[h]ka" or "Iosca Broitman"; well, let's see - for "ioska broitman kisinevski", there are six hits in all (including the Stromfront White Nationalist Community and a page maintained by the antisemitic politician Aurel Şeitan); 3 hits for "iosca broitman chisinevschi", only one of which refers to him; 2 for "ioska broitman chisinevschi", both of them comments to threads in forums. I ran out of variants.

The results will, I hope, speak for themselves. Dahn 05:52, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
