I'm not sure that she was indeed "second to the pharaoh's favourite, Nefertari". Judging from their titles, they seemed to have equal rank. It is easy to believe Nefertari was the favourite, since many monuments dedicated to her survive, including her beautiful tomb, but the fact that no similar monuments of Isetnofret were found doesn't mean that those monuments never existed or weren't equally impressive. There is a theory that Nefertari was associated with Upper Egypt (where the climate helped preserve her monuments in a better condition) and Isetnofret with Lower Egypt (which was less lucky in this regard), it may be that this helped fuel the romantic legend that Nefertari was "the only true love of Ramesses". (This and maybe the wishful thinking of the 21st century Egypt-fan who prefers to think of a popular historic figure as living in quasi-monogamy, if not physically then at least emotionally.) – Alensha talk 19:39, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
