[edit]Translated before it was published in Italy? Possible of course, but seems unlikely, and needs explaining if so.. Rich Farmbrough, 08:09 6 April 2007 (GMT).
- 1950 seems highly unlikely and probably derives from a hasty reading of the reference given in footnote 5. According to http://des.emory.edu/mfp/calvino/calchrono.html Calvino begins to undertake the project that will lead to the Italian Folktales in 1954. The same page gives the date of the first English translation as 1962, but doesn’t say who translated or published it. The earliest translation I can find on COPAC is by Sylvia Mulcahy, published by Dent in 1975; Library of Congress seems to have nothing earlier than George Martin’s translation (New York : Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, c1980). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ian Spackman (talk • contribs) 10:17, 6 April 2007 (UTC).
