It says in that the inscription on the pomegranate is "Sacred donation for the priests in the House of G-D". When I read this, I do not read "Sacred donation", but rather, the 4 letters KHNM (כהנם) means "Priests". By saying קדש כהנם, this suggests the reading "Holy are Priests", and not "Holy Priests". The tenses that the text is written in suggests the full translation of "Holy are Priests - To the house of G-D". It is unclear if the text is a sentence (Holy are Priests to the house of G-D) but this is unlikely, seeing that bullae of that era have the inscription "To" (ל) before the name. This suggests two separate statements. -206.126.80.100 (talk) 02:54, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

We rely on reliable sources for our articles, if you can find one that supports this, please use it or post it here. But we can't use our own analysis or translations. Dougweller (talk) 08:25, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Try this: http://www.bib-arch.org/online-exclusives/ivory-pomegranate-01.asp. This says "“(Belonging) to the Temple (literally, house) of [G-D], Holy to the Priests.” " The only difference is that to say "to", you add the prefix "ל" before the word. There is no prefix, therefore, it is just "Holy [are] priests". The translation from the article is not literal.

Do we know who found the pomegranate? I ask this because Ron Wyatt claims to have found the pomegranate in 1982 (http://www.arkdiscovery.com/aoc-2.htm)Shutterbug99 (talk) 14:39, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Biblical Archaeology Review Article

[edit]

In the November/December 2014 issue of Biblical Archaeology Review, Hershel Shanks has an editorial in which he discusses this further.

But I didn't feel like editing the article any.

Cheers.
