Don't you dare delete this article
These boys are firmly part of UK popular culture now whether you like it or not. They have been discussed by the British Prime Minister, and have had countless column inches dedicated to them.
Wikipedia is not here to decide whether someone has talent or not, but whether they are notable. John and Edward won't be winning the Booker Prize anytime soon, but they now part of popular cultural history - again, whether you like it or not.
Were I a little green man just landed from Mars (which I am not), and wondered who or what this "Jedward" was which everyone seems to be talking about, I would expect Wiki to tell me.
If we can have pages dedicated to non entities of even lesser stature such as Preston from the Ordinary Boys, then these famous Irish twins deserve their own page too.
Keep it factual of course. But keep them in. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.246.71.166 (talk) 15:57, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
The simple fact remains that if niether Stacey or Olly the finalist are getting pages then enither should they. if its going on press then Danyl should get a page seeing as his name was splashed all over the newspapers 90.205.34.13 (talk) 15:33, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
That fact is no-one is interested enough to make an article about the othe people. If you want to make an article then you can but more people are interested in Jedward.188.221.127.121 (talk) 16:37, 14 December 2009 (UTC)anon
- People have made articles about the others but they were all redirected back to the list of contestants, mostly through the AFD process. This article was sent to AFD but failed to reach consensus. Another one may be necessary in the future. Please do not create articles for the other contestants, thank you. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 16:47, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

- Unfortunatley, i do not like John and Edward either, but they are quickly becoming Notable people, so i think it should stay.--milesaaway (talk) 09:49, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
- I agree, It should stay as people want to know about them (even tho they are rubbish!). However, to keep wikipedia serious, the article should be called "john and edward grimes" and jedward should redirect to that, as opossed to john and edward grimes redirecting to jedward. Additionally the description of music act should be considered very carefully. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.111.61.6 (talk) 11:53, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
- You may want to leave comments on the AFD page Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jedward where the deletion of this article is being discussed. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 15:44, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
- Like many other Xfactor, popstars, big brother, and various other Tv shows contestants, they may SEEM notable now, but they will soon disappear once the general public loses interest.
- Also, this article is clearly a biased written article, with very paper thin and presuming sources. I'm with Drunkenmonkey111 - DELETE IMMEDIATELY - --A Chain of Flowers (talk) 20:11, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- This article should stay. They are household names, and why should it be deleted when it's only going to made again in the future. --Arneldo (talk) 23:14, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not "a joke" for providing legitimate information about an act that people are clearly interested in. Their level of talent is irrelevant to this debate. A significant number of people are interested in knowing about them; the advantage of Wikipedia as compared to hard-copy encyclopaedias is its ability to provide up-to-the-minute information on pop culture as well as technological and other advances. This is not about your opinion or anyone else's. It is about whether information about them should be available in a reliable encyclopaedic format and I think it's obvious that it should. FiendishThingie (talk) 15:38, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
Keep them in!
They do deserve a wiki page. It would be helpful if you had a section on how to distinguish one from the other as that question seems to come up a lot. John has the pointy ear and scars on nose and eyebrow. Edward has a scar on his lip, and is slightly taller than John. If they fade away into obscurity, the page won't get seen much, that is all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.193.212.191 (talk) 22:01, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
Actually, they do deserve a wiki page, as they are fast becoming celebrities. Hardly a day goes by without see them in the paper. They will NOT win the X Factor this year, but they are the main highlight of the series this year.Jemmabond (talk) 13:21, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
- No, they are in the papers NOW. They'll soon disappear, like all the other Xfactor "celebrities". They don't deserve a page, because they haven't done anything. Come back when they have a couple of singles and an album on the way. Until then, a mention on the Xfactor page is sufficient --A Chain of Flowers (talk) 00:14, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
- They have mediocre singing voices, but they have star power, and I think they will be around for a long time. In any case, the current furore surrounding their X Factor run is reason enough to make them noteable. Timothy Horrigan (talk) 04:08, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
As a source of knowledge wikipedia has articles on anyhting and everything, flowers for example aren't famous but i bet they are in here. It is not about fame it is about what people want to know about. I wonder how did the people wanting to delete this found it? Yes, it is because they wanted to look at it. If in a years time no one cares anymore then this will fade away, it doen't do any harm to leave this page in.188.221.127.121 (talk) 16:43, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Name change
I'm not sure Jedward is the best name for the article, would it not be better as John and Edward or John and Edward Grimes. What do others think? Petepetepetepete (talk) 18:41, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
- Jedward is the most common name for these two individuals and so, as per WP:COMMONNAME, it is an appropriate name for this article. Adambro (talk) 18:43, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not convinced it is the more commonly used name, a google search for Jedward returns 27,000,000 results, John and Edward brings up 109,000,000. Petepetepetepete (talk) 19:14, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
- I think it should be moved due to Petepetepetepete's reason. Bravedog (talk) 13:36, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
- I moved it to John & Edward because that is the correct name for the duo. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 15:06, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
- I've noticed. I can't say I'm too bothered either way but since I don't see any need to rush things, it would have probably been helpful to have waited a little longer to discuss things. The correct title would surely be whatever consensus emerged from this discussion decided it to be and that could quite feasibly be either the official and more formal "John & Edward", or "Jedward", the nickname they've acquired. The reason I felt that Jedward might be appropriate was as I've explained above, but also based upon my own awareness of these two. I can't say I have much (any) real interest in The X Factor so haven't followed things closely and, as an outsider, knew them more as "Jedward" than "John & Edward", and I assume this will depend on the degree to which particular individuals have followed The X Factor. Nevertheless, as I've said, I don't have strong feelings either way but just think the naming isn't as clear cut as perhaps describing "John & Edward" as the correct title implies. Adambro (talk) 15:26, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
- I think it would be inappropriate to name an article using a nickname, and Jedward redirects here so that's not a problem. I actually didn't know there was a discussion when I moved the page - I planned on moving it anyway as soon as the AFD was closed (as long as the article was kept). - "Jedward returns 27,000,000 results, John and Edward brings up 109,000,000." - I bet you 27m of those Jedward results were about Jedward, while most of the 109m "John and Edward" results aren't relevant. I did a modified search using "john and edward" x-factor for the search terms and got a little over 4m...although Jedward still gives fewer results so I guess the point is moot, although I still wonder how many of the "john and edward" ones are relevant :-P 78.86.230.62 (talk) 13:23, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Single/album release
Given that the first single Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby) and presumably the upcoming album and further singles are to be released under the name "Jedward", i think its appropriate that the article be named Jedward, since the name is no longer just a popular short-form rather one that has been chosen by the record label. It says "They appeared on the Friday Night With Jonathan Ross show on the 29 January 2010, talking about life after the X-Factor and their forthcoming single release" which is biased in favour of Britain and their Irish. Irish television appearances
I see that their is now a section dedicated to John & Edward's television appearances. Why are their appearances on shows such as The Late Late Toy Show not included? They are famous in Ireland, too, which happens to be their homeland. Cleanupbabe (talk) 19:35, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Jedward
Since their single is being released under the name "Jedward" (confirmed by the single cover), should this page be moved back to Jedward as the now official name of the duo? We would note that they were known as John & Edward on The X Factor, etc. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 16:45, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

American Accents at Audition?
The British press frequently mentions that the brothers put on "faux-American" accents at one point in their X Factor audition. One of those British press articles is cited in the wikipedia article. The video, however, shows them coming out and speaking in an accent which sounded American to Simon Cowell and then, when he teases them, they switch for a moment to what sounds to American ears like an exaggerated Irish accent. The socalled "faux-American" accent sounds just like what Americans sound like when they are doing a faux-Irish accent. To a Yank (like me) they sound quite Irish during the whole interview. Clean up reverted
User:Unreal7 recently reverted most of what I had done in trimming down the overly detailed trivia in this article, more suited to a fanpage. Could s/he please detail why, as no explanations were supplied. Specifically;
- Why is detailed reportage of exchanges in their first audition required? I had summarised events.
- "constantly received negative press" is voicing an opinion. What if others think it not constant at all?
- "Many people, including Cowell, believed that Walsh only put John & Edward through because they are Irish like him" - weaselly uncited claim. Who are these "Many people" and where is it said that Cowell believed this?
- "they also had a fanbase that led to them surviving until week seven of the competition" More opinion. Where is this "fanbase" cited and where is it demonstrated that they are the reason they remained in the competition?
- "Just days later" - POV phrasing. Using "Just" suggests to the reader that the time between events should be considered short.
- "This episode was later hailed as "the most exciting X Factor ever" - Unattributed opinion. Who said this?
- The description of their tie with Lucie Jones is overly complicated and confusing. It is enough to say they got through, she didn't.
- "John & Edward were accused of having their singing drowned out by backing vocals," - uncited claim. Accused by who?
- "When the voting figures were revealed after the end of the series..." - this is all original research. The cite is of raw figures. It does not perform any of the analysis given, and certainly does not offer any conclusions based on it.
Thanks. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 21:11, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Since Unreal7 is ignoring other editors attempts to discuss things, and is continuing to revert and edit without any explanation in the edit summary, I have reverted back my changes. Parents
The article currently states that their parents are separated, but Edward Grimes stated that their parents are still together in an interview for this Irish Independent Article. ("Mum and Dad have not broken up, that's on Wikipedia but it’s not true, they are as together now as they ever were"). The Irish Independent is a more reputable publication than the magazine currently referenced in the article in which 'sources' claimed the parents had split. The also a direct quote, rather than hearsay, so I'm deleting the statement in the article. ANB (talk) 02:05, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Confused statement
The section Other work starts with the ambiguous claim "In December 2009, Jedward fronted a radio campaign promoting Irish tourism in the UK." This needs clarifying, as it's not clear whether the adverts were broadcast in the UK to encourage people to visit Eire, or vice-versa. Either it should read "In December 2009, Jedward fronted a UK radio campaign promoting Ireland as a tourist destination" or "...fronted an Irish radio campaign promoting the UK as a tourist destination." Does anyone know which way round it was? ~dom Kaos~ (talk) 13:56, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Contradiction regarding Robbie Williams & John & Edward
The article states that 'Many celebrities have also commented on the Jedward phenomenon.[3] Their fans include Calvin Harris,[4][5][6][7] Andy Murray,[8] Peaches Geldof,[9] Pixie Lott and Robbie Williams', however it later states that "[...]while Leona Lewis and Robbie Williams worry about them". To me this reads as though Robbie William both likes, yet also dislikes them, am i reading this wrong, or is this something someone should clean up in the article? Redirect Left (talk) 23:45, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- Since when does worrying about someone mean you dislike them? Although I'd be pretty worried if I were Jedward, you have to worry when Robbie Williams worries about you :-) 78.86.230.62 (talk) 13:18, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry if I caused anyone embarrassment. Ps. I love Jedward." It is quite incredibly obvious that he is being sarcastic. In this article http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/music/calvin-sorry-for-jedward-stunt-1943856.html He should not be listed as a fan.--87.244.100.248 (talk) 21:05, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Emphasis on X Factor days
A lot of the material in this article dates back to just after their X Factor stint and I was wondering if people thought it was a little too weighted with material from that period? In particular, the week-by-week description of their time on XF seems a little excessive two years on, when Jedward have done a lot of other non-XF related stuff since. The "Reactions" section is also dominated by reactions to their time on that show, not subsequent activities like Eurovision (which has a very different audience to XF). Might the XF section, in particular, be trimmed? The article is quite long already. ANB (talk) 17:06, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

- You're kidding, right? -- Jack1755 (talk) 14:52, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
- No. If it happened it's notable enough for the article. Is'nt it? Jack Quinn UK (talk) 16:43, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- No. It doesn't seem to have been reported by the mainstream media and we have a higher threshold for inclusion than the gutter press. Does the source pass WP:RS either? – Toon 17:03, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- I would think so. Jack Quinn UK (talk) 17:08, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
- It doesn't sound like the kind of thing that should be included here. UnrealityTV is not a reliable source, and lots of people watch porn, so what's so special about this? AnemoneProjectors (talk) 17:19, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, I will abort the proposed edit. Jack Quinn UK (talk) 16:56, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- its a blog, is that notable?
- who doesnt? :P —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.61.111.53 (talk) 13:04, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
What type of porn was it? 63.3.2.1 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:54, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

Stage Section needed a rewrite
This section needed work as it read like it's not been touched for a while. It claimed that their pantos at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin were still going on but only recorded the 2010 through 2013 shows. At some point post 2013 they seem to have stopped however and it looks like 2013 was their last as Google found me:
- 2013 - video of them in 'Beauty and the Beast'
- 2014 - poster with no mention of them
- 2015 - ditto
- 2016 - ditto
- 2017 - ditto
- 2018 - ditto
- 2019 - ditto
So I'm going to update this section once I've posted this.
