Rokocoko pronunciation

[edit]

You can hear an audio clip of Rokocoko pronouncing his name here: [1] (scroll down to the clip labelled "See All Blacks Keven Mealamu, Aaron Mauger, Joe Rokocoko and Greg Somerville front the fans at an adidas store visit in Melbourne" - it's about 50 seconds into the clip.)

He pronounces his name with a voiceless dental fricative, and note the /əʊ/ diphthongs in the final two syallables (/o/ in General American). The second vowel sound should perhaps be a schwa. --Muchness 04:37, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

strongly disagree, i've heard him pronounce his name on radio here in fiji, and he pronounces his name correctly, reverting --Xorkl000 04:44, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the correction. --Muchness 05:00, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For those of us who dont know what a voiceless dental fricative is or what diphthongs are or that this is and English character: ð, the 'C' in Fiji is pronounced like a 'th' as in "bathe", a vocalized 'th' rather than a hissing 'th' as in "thistle". So you would say it like this: Roko-though-ko. As for intonations, not sure if they use them in Fijian, maybe more monotone like Japanese? --Billy Nair (talk) 22:20, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article name

[edit]

I know this seems a strange subject for a biographical article. But the articles name is Joe Rokocoko, apparently, the man himself wants to be known known by his full name Josevata Rokocoko. You can read the article here [2], the stuff.co.nz links go down rather quickly so I encourage people to read it soon. I think if he wants to be known by his full name then fair enough, and we should move the article. Joe Rocokoco can then redirect to Josevata Rokocoko. Unless there are any objections I'll move the article soon. - Shudda talk 04:34, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i agree - he has changed his name to josevata - u should redirect it from joe to josevata

Sumtuodomino (talk) 22:57, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Moved this back, in line with WP:UCN. Joe is the only name commonly used by reliable sources. What he prefers is not relevant here. --hippo43 (talk) 04:28, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Citizenship

[edit]

Is Rokocoko a Fiji Citizen (i.e Only has a NZ PR) or has he taken up New Zealand Citizenship? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tiki Nss (talkcontribs) 12:07, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
