This is about whether[edit]

or not to put down john cannan, the serial rapist and murderer as notable. I will post in seven days dependent on the result. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.168.113.58 (talk) 23:36, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Acutally, the article was speedily deleted after the creator blanked it. I will resot and then we can debate notability and WP:BLP after. Dlohcierekim 23:38, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sic?[edit]

Cannan wrote in letters from jail that "chocolates [sic], champagne and roses are ways of saying I love you and never have I felt embarrassed about buying them or saying those words"

Why is sic necessary here? "Chocolates" is spelled correctly and is a real word used to describe, for example, a box of chocolates. Lyrric (talk) 17:27, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dating Agency Video[edit]

Cannan's dating video is mentioned twice, secondly in the "Personal Life" section, presumably to fill it out. I am going to delete the second reference. Matuko (talk) 20:55, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dating Agency Misgivings[edit]

I watched the dating video linked in the article and came across a contemporary documentary about Cannan which features an interview with a dating agency staffer. She says they definitely shared his dating video and that it was very popular. I'm going to tag it as needing a better source, and see if I can find one. inaccurate car details[edit]

The information about the car is incorrect. The number plate given was the one on Shirley Banks' car, which Cannan stole, repainted and gave a new (false) number plate, and was a Fiesta, not a Sierra. No forensic evidence linking it to Suzy Lamplugh was found in the Sierra. The match was only partial, so was to potentially thousands of people, and there is no way to know how long it was there.198.140.62.1 (talk) 16:03, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Melanie Hall[edit]

How can he have been linked to her murder if he was in prison (life in prison 1989 - Hall case 1996)? Martinsnos (talk) 22:35, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Found an archive link for the citation given for his full name[edit]

Would edit it in myself but I can't scroll down on the page when I click "edit source". Here is the link: https://web.archive.org/web/20080728133921/https://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/144_13929.htm. Hopefully someone who still watches the article will be able to edit in the archival link.--Phil of rel (talk) 01:50, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

'Public school'?[edit]

Cannan... attended public school until the age of 15.

Are you sure you're referring to an indepedent fee-paying school? This needs clarifying. And any reason for not naming the school? Valetude (talk) 17:39, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable source?[edit]

This source [[1]] is used extensively in this article but doesn’t seem to be a reliable published source. In one part it’s mixed in details from Suzy Lamplugh’s disappearance with the Shirley Banks murder. It looks more like a student paper than a published article and should most likely be removed. The source does include its references that could be cited instead. IndigoBeach (talk) 15:52, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Just adding a note to close the loop on my earlier comment: I've removed the above source from the article and added RS instead WP:BLPSOURCE. IndigoBeach (talk) 10:03, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
