[edit]John Penry is also a Texan who had the mental age of two. He was convicted of murder of executed. It sparked national debate and then governor bush supported the execution of the mentally retarded man.
The picture on this page is that of Archbishop John Whitgift who orchestrated the death of John Penry, not that of John Penry himself. Cadillac (talk) 16:58, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
why is he referred to as a 'Protestant martyr' when he was killed by a Protestant queen? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 135.196.168.184 (talk) 13:19, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
Categorisation
[edit]He was Welsh, but was executed in and by the Kingdom of England. I have therefore categorised him under both English martyrs and Welsh martyrs. Alekksandr (talk) 17:46, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
Portrait
[edit]I have deleted the picture alleged to be of John Penry as Cadillac and Parentheticus were right, it being a portrait of John Whitgift. This is how it is labeled at http://www.marlovian.com/essays/penry.html, a portrait which seems to be derived from the one at https://www.magnoliabox.com/products/john-whitgift-archbishop-of-canterbury-1626618.
