Why did an unnamed user remove the reference to the Motion for New Trial? There are now no references at all. Should this be reverted, or not?AppalachianLady 02:22, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why does the majority of this article appear to be propaganda for the mother who was convicted? It focuses more on the mothers defense then on the story of the child who was murdered and abused. Endabusenow (talk) 06:47, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

^ It was really all propaganda for her mother, even under the "website" it showed the address for the liberation of her mother. I removed everything that had to do with her mother's role in this. I wouldn't be surprised if even her mother edited the wiki page to gain support online. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.176.139.84 (talk) 13:45, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit[edit]

I have edited the article significantly and added a few footnotes. Hope it helped at least a little bit. Kael-kun (talk) 22:28, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I added a more balanced news article as a link ('Kelsey Smith-Briggs - Murder & Exploitation Prosecutor Smothermon pushes false charges?'). I wish I had more time to rewrite the Wikipedia article as it seems it is deeply biased against the facts. I'll let the more wiki savvy out there figure out if that is needed. The link provides at least one good source for a re-write. Charnov (talk) 21:48, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would invite anyone with a modicum of education to read the US Observer link referenced above and conclude it is anything other than base invective (and a poor attempt). Where is any objective presentation of fact? Where is a rational timeline or specific reference made to official reports (which do amply exist)? This is a strikingly obvious attempt at obfuscation and character assassination. (except, strangely enough, the perpetrator who fatally kicked a baby in the stomach somehow gets a journalistic equivalent of a token slap on the wrist?) If you removed every adjective the sentences become either equivocal, meaningless, or bald invective. IMHO (which doesn't count for much) this is the equivalent of hate-speech. Please, gentle readers who happen by and are willing to spare a moment to give it a critical read - i.e. dont accept the author's premises without requiring him to prove or substantiate them - I will not remove it but will support anyone who does. 3 September Edits[edit]

Ive found two official summaries of this case in the state archives and have made some major revisions including them as references. Reading these exposes the External link from usobserverok.com (placed by an SPA) as obviously unencyclopaedic, at best. István (talk) 18:21, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ive removed it for being invective, mostly unrelated to the article subject.István (talk) 13:39, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kelsey Smith-BriggsDeath of Kelsey Smith-Briggs – 1) This article is not a pure biography, but a child death case. Otherwise, we would have a separate article for her parents' trial. 2) The crime is notable, not the victim. 3) To be consistent with other notable child death/murder cases like Death of Caylee Anthony or Murder of James Bulger. The Legendary Ranger (talk) 17:48, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Merge discussion[edit]

In addition to the requested move, I propose that Kelsey Smith-Briggs Child Protection Reform Act be merged here. As of now, that article just duplicates or reiterates what already exists here. While I've seen cases where we have separate articles for a law and the victim it is named after (e.g. Laci Peterson and Laci and Conner's Law and Jessica Lunsford and Jessica's Law) and cases where we don't (e.g. Nixzmary Brown and Nixzmary's Law and Amber Hagerman and AMBER Alert), this seems to fall into the latter because it only applies to one state. Usually, a law would need a separate article if it reaches Congress or goes beyond a small area. Since the law's article is quite short, undoing a merge would not be too difficult should it be needed. The Legendary Ranger (talk) 17:48, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to add a website to this article. I tried to do it once already and was told it violated the guidelines. Which guideline I do not know, as it has more to do with Kelsey and her story and case than the other website, Kelsey's Purpose, does. 72.215.6.133 (talk) 14:12, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
