"was" not appropriate

The multiple people rushing in to change "is" to "was" and everything else to past tense throughout the article (each time it is reverted) are acting in such unbelievably poor taste that it stretches belief. Wait until major reliable sources start referring to the city in the past tense--weeks or months or years from now--before making this change. The mass destruction of buildings where people were living until that moment just hours ago (if that is what is happening) does not suddenly mean the city no longer exists. 216.243.36.196 (talk) 09:13, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The "Completely Destroyed" report came from a private web site and was based solely on a JMA seismic intensity scale measurement of 7, not on any actual reported damage -- 110.49.251.174 (talk) 11:12, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
