Cast-order[edit]

How do we know now, how the actors are listed??? - Listed in the credits! -- LAW CSI (talk) 20:45, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's true that the ADAs a main characters? -- 91.66.20.79 (talk) 14:13, 1 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Production codes[edit]

Where are all they coming from? I don't see them in any of the sources. (I have no intention to remove them, by the way). --Davejohnsan (talk) 18:47, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Me either. I wouldn't be against removing them since they can't be verified. —Mike Allen 01:19, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like it is taken from TV.com which is user-submitted like Wikipedia, so it fails WP:RS. —Mike Allen 01:22, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reception[edit]

Could someone please write a "Reception" section to the article. --Editor2205 (talk) 07:56, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

IMDb is an external site, not reference/source[edit]

Someone, User:91.64.21.78 just threw a link from the SVU IMDb page in the episode table, using it as a source (like NBC.com/TheFuton Critic, TV Guide, or MSN). User:Alec2011 removed it, citing IMDB is not a reliable source (which is true from September to May), IMDb eps. are corrected after the season ends... IMDb, they don't know exactly when an episode will air, things change.

The IP addressed user then removed IMDb from the external links section (taking in what Alex2011 said incorrectly). IMDb is a good external site to research SVU episodes, but that's all, which is why it's there and that's where it needs to stay. It's not a source for episodes in the episode table, never has been.--SVU4671 (talk) 21:29, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Season 13 - May Episodes[edit]

Before anyone does any changes to re-add "Street Revenge", it's shown as crossed off on The Futon Critic's website, with a note saying "THIS LISTING HAS BEEN DELETED BY THE NETWORK AND IS NO LONGER VALID".

The only episode listed right now is "The Learning Curve" and the episode starring James Vander Beek, has a reference from TV Guide, saying it's scheduled to air May 9. Of course this could all change, either from TFC or another reliable source.

I just wanted explain so no one says it's "vandlism" or something like that. 74.56.7.62 (talk) 05:45, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Production codes (eps. 1 and 3)[edit]

In regards to this edit, the reason I switched the production codes of those two episodes is that I cannot find any reference to verify this. The only site I saw with production codes (or at least the filming order) was The Futon Critic, which lists Scorched Earth as 1301 and Blood Brothers as 1303. Davejohnsan (talk) 18:02, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-appearance of long time recurring characters[edit]

Apparently my edit [1] is controversial. The observation is in the same vein as the observation that Tamara Tunie got bumped down to recurring status and it definitely is a "cast change". I am okay with changing the tone of the sentence if you can suggest better wording but this information needs to be somewhere in the article. It's entirely possible that this article will be read by someone who is only moderately interested in SVU - someone who is deciding whether or not to catch up on this season - and this information would influence his or her decision. I know many people whose favourite character is Elizabeth Donnelly. A more far-fetched scenario is that this article gets read by the casting director to gauge feedback. If he decided not to cast those people because he thought the characters are useless and no one would miss them, this statement makes it clear that at least one person did miss them. I know that most of the cast changes that get mentioned in articles like this are changes that get "announced" in show promotions and entertainment news. I am in favour of mentioning four departures that no one considered to be "big news" because it helps to curb the [2] trend. In any case, I would like to know if there is any Wikipedia policy against this edit. Connor Behan (talk) 19:59, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's not that your edit contravenes Wikipedia policy or is controversial, it's that this non-appearance isn't relevant to changes in main cast members. Recurring characters come and go all the time; I personally don't see the need to keep track of every one of them. Also, I'm pretty sure a couple of those actors never appeared during the twelfth season, either. Davejohnsan (talk) 20:20, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Light and Hermann only appeared at the beginning of season 12 so it almost seems like they have been gone for two years. Anyway, I certainly wouldn't indicate this for a recurring character that only appeared in one or two seasons. I mentioned these actors because BD Wong's departure was big news and these actors first appeared at around the same time as BD Wong without every departing for a season. Even if the showrunner never made any of them "main", this creates some expectation that they will not "come and go all the time" so I think it is notable for a section that is about changes to the cast in general. Connor Behan (talk) 21:41, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As nicely said by Davejohnson - recurring character's come and go. Light didn't appear in season 5 - and? is she a member of the cast? no. The difference with Wong, all comes down to the fact he was a regular character - not a recurring one. Therefore, I have hidden the content, until this is resolved. -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 03:02, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank-you, I didn't realize that Judith Light missed a season. For the other three whose streaks were unbroken, I think the decision to mention an actor should be based on more objective criteria than whether they are "main" or not. These actors have appeared in more episodes than some of the main cast and with such consistency, the show established that these are more than just characters that come and go. I'm not trying to make them heavily showcased - e.g. I would not add Petrovsky, Langan and Morales to the red and green "character timeline" box in the SVU article - I'm just trying to put this information somewhere. I think it detracts from the quality of an article when it only mentions changes that were widely reported and none of the less obvious ones. Connor Behan (talk) 04:04, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The character timeline is specifically meant for regular cast, anyway - That being said, the section in this article, is entitled "Cast changes and returning characters" *not* "Reccuring/Cast changes and departed characters". I still stand by my words, however, a fresh pair of eyes may be more appropriate. -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 04:15, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The "Cast" section of this article lists recurring actors so why not the "Cast changes" section? In fact this page and every other season specific page has that section divided into subsections: "Principal cast" and "Recurring cast". It is inconsistent to have some parts of the article using a more restrictive definition of cast. Connor Behan (talk) 06:20, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If it helps the discussion in any way I find that listing the departing recurring cast either in the article for the season that departed in or the next one, while minor, is welcome for those of us who aren't so versed in the show and are just catching up :) I mean technically "departing cast" would fall under "cast changes" but on a practical level I thought the note was relevant. zeChinaman (talk) 19:36, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW (I am not very familiar with the show), I agree with the "Recurring characters come and go all the time" stand and that they don't need a mention in the Cast changes section, as I explained on the WP:TV project talkpage. – sgeureka tc 09:35, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have put the information in the show's page if you want to keep "cast changes" free of information like this. 1. That section is on "casting and characters" so the title sounds like characters can still be discussed even if the question of whether or not they belong in the "cast" is debatable. 2. I accompanied the sentence with a cited sentence saying that Warren Leight wanted to rejuvenate the show so the non-appearance helps to support another statement even if it isn't useful by itself. 3. That section specifically talks about Dean Winters leaving and Paula Patton leaving so if my edit is really not appropriate for that article, this other stuff should have been cleaned up too. Connor Behan (talk) 03:00, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rather than focusing on Dean Winters' departure, I think you should look at why he was mentioned in the first place: "Dean Winters was cast as Munch's partner, Brian Cassidy, at the insistence of Belzer." And as far as Paula Patton, she was supposed to join the cast the show but dropped out. In all fairness, I'm pretty sure this was around the time that SVU began cycling through ADAs like crazy, but that topic is for another day.

I still stand behind my main argument though: Recurring characters come and go. Some of them have been part of the show for awhile, and many of them have not appeared throughout an entire season or even more. I honestly still don't see the necessity in tracking how often they appear.

Also, I would like to point out that your statement is asserting that Warren Leight's takeover of the show has a direct correlation with the absences of these 3 actors. That is sorta crossing into WP:OR, don't you think? Davejohnsan (talk) 03:24, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think my edit, and the one about "Patton the one episode wonder", should either both stay or both go. But with Dean Winters... yeah you're right. He was mentioned because an interesting piece of information about his addition to the show was available. And if you mention some one joining the show, you might as well mention him leaving the show. By that logic, would my edit be more welcome if I find some story about the first appearance of Merlin and/or Hermann and/or Fuente in a reliable source?
As for original research, my gut tells me that Leight's takeover was precisely the cause, even though I didn't directly say this. That's why there has never been another SVU season when a recurring character was absent for the first time in 9 seasons, much less three. What if I were to cite the quotation where Warren Leight found TARU scenes boring and hired Gilbert Gottfried to spice things up? I think that would be enough to link the sudden absence to the new showrunner for one of those actors. Connor Behan (talk) 04:12, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you can find a citation where Warren Leight discusses these particular changes, that'd be great. Hell, I'd even help you add it to the appropriate articles if you even want. Davejohnsan (talk) 04:14, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you consider TARU scenes synonymous with Joel de la Fuente's scenes (which I do), then the citation I've added to the SVU page is exactly that. At first you will probably want to remove the part in brackets but I ask that it be kept for the following reasons: 1. Merlin and Hermann are being mentioned in the most discreet possible way. A user has to care enough to click or point at the links to even know which actors they are referring to. 2. I had to create the article on Joanna Merlin, so at this time, there are very few articles linking to it and every link helps. Connor Behan (talk) 07:33, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
