Reformatted list

[edit]

I completely reformatted the list using other featured lists on Wikipedia as a reference. If there is any objection to the change let me know. The list still needs to be alphabetized by the "Award" group and I will work on that later. DrNegative (talk) 21:20, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To me, this list needs its honors section back as a subsection. That section could hold prose information. There is nothing wrong with having non lead-paragraphs in a list article. This film is going to keep being honored, and the lead is now overly detailed. Only having a section for Awards and nominations in this article is very limiting, because some of these honors do not fit there. And, as I just hinted at, every honor this film receives cannot (or rather should not) go in the lead.
I just took this line out of the main article: Another important prize was the VES 2010.
With stuff like that, it is a hassle to try to figure out how to place it in this article. And for editors not use to wikitables, it is definitely even more of a hassle for them to add another award or nomination to the Awards and nominations list section. Flyer22 (talk) 17:37, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Your change was good, I didn't notice it was there. As for the formatting, I was basing this list on another featured list - WALL-E and another list No Country for Old Men. By renaming the article "Accolades", the Films Project made it where this article could encompass much more in terms of listing the film's recognition within the lead or the table. Perhaps renaming the section head would clarify? DrNegative (talk) 19:35, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As for the VES award, it is listed near the bottom of the table and has been there for several months now. Only listing the most notable awards in the lead seems to be the standard practice and is what I attempted to do here. If an editor would like an award listed who does not have knowledge with wiki-tables, I would be more than happy to implement it into the table if they posted the proposed inclusion here on the talk-page. The Academy Awards mark the last of the "most" notable awards that this film will ever be given and all future awards will likely be from critics, magazines, or other various film institutions in the future. Other minor awards will probably be given for the home-media as well. I tweaked the lead and as I said before, it looks very similar in style and structure of other featured lists regarding film awards. Your more than welcome to trim it down if you think any of it is unnecessary to the reader. DrNegative (talk) 20:12, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Renaming the section header might be a good idea. But wouldn't that be inviting the list to become significantly longer than it is? Are we going to keep future awards/nominations/honors from critics, magazines, or other various film institutions out of this article? I know why the title of this article was changed, but it could have just easily been retitled to Awards and honors. I am just saying that prose in this article, other than in the lead, would not be a bad thing. If no other film article list is like that, then this article would be setting a precedent. No big deal.
You have been doing a great job with this list. I just wanted to point out these "issues" or soon-to-be issues. Flyer22 (talk) 21:38, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not understanding what the issues are. Why is it a problem to include additional accolades post-Oscars? In addition, something like the VES award seems worth including. If there are any table adjustments that need to be made, let me know, and I can help. Erik (talk) 22:46, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Flyer22, to answer your question, no I do not want to omit anything from this list article related to the accolades for Avatar. In fact, every time I come across a new one over the internet I quickly check here to see if I or anyone else has included it yet to the list. All I was saying was, what future awards could be lead-worthy now? All we can do is speculate at this point but typically the Academy Awards has been sort of the super-bowl for films so to speak, anything after that is just bragging rights (Saturn Awards, etc). I am not against going from the lead, to a new subsection, then to the table-list if you think we can prose some more notable awards into it though. I just cannot think of any awards not already mentioned that are worthy of note to add to the lead or a proposed sub-section. And thank you for the compliment
Erik, I added a sentence to the lead about the VES wins. And thanks ahead of time for any assistance that you can provide for any formatting that needs to be done to the table. DrNegative (talk) 23:26, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
