Untitled[edit]

The units used on this page are incorrect SI units; Metric tons should be tonnes, but that doesn't matter because a metric tonne isn't a "real" SI unit. This is an encyclopedia not a 7th grade text book. The correct unit is a Mega-gram (Megagram) or Mg and 1 million of those is a Peta-gram (Petagram) or Pg not million metric tons.

Pure pedantry. Scientists don't have monopoly rights over the English language. The quantum of steel production matters for business and economic reasons, not for scienitific reasons, and just about every steel company, industry body, and government uses ton(ne)s.

Proposed merge from List of top steel exporting countries[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
Merged. Wizard191 (talk) 16:08, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

I feel that the contents at List of top steel exporting countries would fit well here. I don't know if I would think to look for another article specifically about the export of steel when I find this article. Wizard191 (talk) 14:13, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

I agree. David (talk) 16:03, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Partial 2009 data[edit]

Please do not readd this data without discussing it here first. I do not think that it should be included because it is not a full years worth of data like the other columns. Moreover, some of the data used is estimated and other countries have not yet reported so it is very inaccurate. If you disagree please explain. Wizard191 (talk) 16:09, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Should Define Steel[edit]

It is not clear from the article (or Wikipedia links) what "steel" includes in these tables. I found this on p. 12 one of the PDF source links.

"The figures are based on a broad definition of the steel industry and its products, including ingots, semi-finished products, hot-rolled and cold- finished products, tubes, wire, and unworked castings and forgings." Keith McClary (talk) 19:18, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
