Stricter inclusion criteria[edit]

I think we need to have a stricter inclusion criteria. From the comments of the AfD, most people would consider a list of state visits to be notable enough but a list of working visits such as to a particular summit or conference is not considered to be notable. I think we need to include official visits too, to account for parliamentary democracies where the head of state is a figurehead. It is also easier to gather sources for official and state visits, since they are more widely reported. Let me know your views on this inclusion criteria:

  • Visits by a head of state or a head of government which is classified as either a "state visit" or an "official visit"

Hi @Gazoth:, Thanks for initiating this discussion. Yes, the criteria you have mention should definitely be included. I am currently in two minds about visits to large events like BIMSTEC, BRICS, or ISAS. Some of these received significant news coverage but it is unclear if each visit from the respective parties was a "State Visit". What is your opinion on this? Maybe, we include some of these as long as it was a visit by a Head of state or government. Thoughts? Adamgerber80 (talk) 21:37, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Adamgerber80: Large events like those would be better covered by articles on the events themselves. Due to the large number of guests, there is no reporting on the individual arrival and departure dates. If you see the entry on International Solar Alliance Summit, 15 heads of state/government seem to arrived and left on the exact same day. If you check the ref, the arrival and departure dates are not mentioned. It is simply impossible to satisfy WP:V in these cases. —Gazoth (talk) 01:51, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gazoth: Yes you are indeed correct about that. But we will have to be careful on what this entails. For example, we had multiple ASEAN leaders visit during this Republic day. That cannot be excluded given that it meets WP:GNG and other such visits have been covered. Adamgerber80 (talk) 22:20, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Adamgerber80: We have a separate list for Republic Day chief guests. What "other visits" are you referring to in "other such visits have been covered"? My proposal would remove several entries from the list here, including International Solar Alliance Summit, BIMSTEC and BRICS summits. —Gazoth (talk) 23:14, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Unless the guests were here on a state or official visit while attending the summit, of course. —Gazoth (talk) 23:16, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gazoth: Fair enough. But be careful when removing entries which are currently unclassified. Most of the recent entries were marked based on MEA press releases which are fine. The older entries are random and unsourced and will require verification rather than blanker removal. Adamgerber80 (talk) 05:58, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
