Info = Spam?

[edit]

The Information about Live365 seems more like spam to mddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddde then a detailed history of live365. Perhaps the person who wrote it should sit down and tell us The founding creators name, a little bit about his past and shareholders or other forms of history. When I read the information about live365 on Wikipedia, it almost seemed like a brochure of some kind. Please, What is the name or names of the people who started it. How did they create the company and how has it evolved. Thats what Wikipedia is all about.

And I'm not singling live365 out. I have come across other online services that have done the same thing. Just advertisments instead of a detailed history. I could have read this information of their own faq sheet. Im not sure where this post will go, but I created it for all to see. feedback if you like.

I just added some more about the history of Live365 and when Live365 began and what not. I was a user on Live365 since December 2000 and remember the good old days :-) - NetRadioGuy

live 365 and Ad-Aware

[edit]

Does anyone know anything about why when I run Ad-Aware, live365.com shows up as a "Critical object" , showing live365 as spyware!

I had the same spyware experience. It looks like my wife picked up a tracking cookie from Live365 so I googled it and ended up here. It looks like they rely on advertising to some extent so I guess they could have placed the cookie except that my wife, who works from her own logon, is an internet novice and it is very unlikely that she knows anything about Live365 either. We both stick pretty much to known sites for shopping, don't open spams or e-mail from people we don't know. I sure would like to know the answer to this one.

What Adaware is detecting is a tracking cookie placed by Live 365. Here's my experience, which may explain yours. My default browser is Firefox. Live 365 has no plugin for Firefox, which has 10% browser usage in the US and higher in Europe. Firefox users are forced to install an Internet Explorer tab to use Live 365. After filling out the requisite forms, receiving the requisite email link, etc. I discovered that it was necessary to loosen the cookie control I still use on IE. The best way to prevent installation of tracking cookies is to use cookie control, easily accessible w/ Firefox, not so easily but still accessible w/ IE. Live 365 doesn't allow use of cookie control--it demands that users set their browsers to accept all cookies. Unfortunately I won't be using Live 365. Please note that Real Player is cleverer. Their tracking cookie circumvents even Firefox cookie control. Further commentary on either media player beggars polite language.--Tapered --75.62.7.189 01:00, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Considered to Be Deleted

[edit]

I am considering to delete this page since it can be viewed as an Advertisement. Second, an employee of Live365 has changed the neutral viewing of the article. Liradio 01:21, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think that with some work, the page can easily be edited so that it is purely informative.

Deletion would set a bad precedent....

[edit]

My thoughts: Deletion of an article about Live365 would be outright irresponsible. Live365 is not just a notable service in its own right, but it has been historically significant to the overall evolution of Internet radio. Live365 is currently one of the highest PR sites of any Internet radio network -- including SHOUTcast. Furthermore, Live365 continues to be placed in Arbitron's online radio ratings panels alongside only a handful of other major industry players like LAUNCHcast and AOL Radio. Also, I recall Live365's CEO being instrumental on more than a few occasions advocating for the Webcasting industry as a whole -- including presenting testimony to the U.S. Congress about legal issues facing the online radio community. Truth be told, as I write this there are Wikipedia articles for Mercora, SomaFM, and a few other far less significant multi-channel Webcasters that should be tagged for speedy deletion if this article about Live365 is every again considered for removal. --SWCastNetwork 08:06, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WARNING TO PROSPECTIVE USERS ==
[edit]

Anyone considering joining Live365.com should be very careful. Do not give them a credit card number that is good for more than a year or you may find yourself charged every year if you TRY to cancel. I tried to cancel in Oct 2006. In October 2007 they charged my card AGAIN. When I inquired, they said I had not followed proper Procedure. So I followed their instructions and canceled AGAIN in Oct 2007. Now they have charged my card AGAIN and once again said I did not cancel correctly. They refuse to refund my money even though they track all use and can tell I have not used their service for the past 2 years. They told me it would be canceled next year…Of course the credit card I have on file expires this Dec… They don’t have much choice about next year. I wanted to call and talk to someone in person about this but they do not list a phone number on their site. I got a Phone # from the Fraud Dept at my credit card company…but that number has been DISSCONNECTED …perhaps I am not the only person they have ripped off. Yes - I am disputing the charge through my card and we’ll see how that plays out.

I just want to warn others about their questionable actions. If you do sign up …please consider finding a way to pay so they cannot automatically charge you even if you no longer wish to use their services

Yeah, I agree that this page has a lot of self-promotion or ad-looking content. I deleted the Future Plans section since it contained no information and just said that "Live365 was committed to making internet radio awesome and had a lot of cool plans for the future." I might go through later and clean up some other parts. Dbmikus (talk) 14:41, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Listening problems

[edit]

I recently (about three months ago) bought a new Windows Vista system and have noticed there seems to be a problem with listening to Live365 stations. Whenever I load a station I get a message telling me that Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and is trying to fix it, then that it is restarting. I find myself being returned to my home page. According to their instructions deleting IE temporary files and cookies should solve the problem, but doesn't appear to for me. Always worked find with XP. Anyone know what's going on here? Also I think we should mention this in the article. I daresay other people have had the same problem. Paul Largo (talk) 15:01, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Are you using a 32 or 64 bit system? I've read somewhere that that their software doesn't support 64 bit systems at present, but that they're working on it. TopDec (talk) 12:08, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Mine is a 64bt system so I guess that's what the problem must be. Hopefully they'll fix it. Thanks for your help. Paul Largo (talk) 15:38, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have a 64bt Vista machine and have found it works if you minimize the Live365 Player window before the station has properly launched. When you launch whichever station you want to listen to, wait for the green "continue" prompt, click on it then minimize the window as quick as you can before the blue window has loaded. I'm not sure whether this is true of all Vista systems, but I have a "show desktop" option on the task bar which minimizes everything. It should run fine then in the background. This works for Internet Explorer, although I did try to run it through Firefox, but there was no sound. Hope this helps. Also I think we should mention this if this is a common problem, which it sounds like it could be. Cheers. TheRetroGuy (talk) 15:01, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just an update on this. I've discovered it works fine with Google Chrome, so I'm guessing the problem is with Internet Explorer. TheRetroGuy (talk) 10:31, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the advice. I've tried it with Chrome this morning and it works fine. Paul Largo (talk) 14:00, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm... Couldn't get to paste the 'Music digital distribution platforms' template...

[edit]

I added Live365 in the Template:Music digital distribution platforms, in the discontinued section. But then I cannot get to add the template \{\{Music digital distribution platforms\}\} line, without cancelling the cathegory lines (at least in the preview). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kabuy (talkcontribs) 16:55, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

This entry is a disaster. The writing is atrocious. And the Live365 described as ongoing in the first paragraph is revealed in the second paragraph to be out of business.

Some talk entries are just bizarre.

Well done.
