@PaulTanenbaum: French nouns are usually quoted with an indefinite article because it gives the gender: une lorgnette, une assiette are feminine, un télescope, un abri are masculine. This would not always be as obvious with a definite aricle: la lorgnette, le télescope but l'assiette, l'abri; and of course removing the article altogether also removes the indication about the gender. — Tonymec (talk) 17:09, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
