Joe Vitt

Should Joe Vitt be considered an official head coach of the Rams? He wasn't even truly an interim coach. He was an ACTING coach while Mike Martz was on a leave of absence with a legitimate health problem, and Martz did not officially lose his title of Head Coach until the end of the season. - 66.93.144.171 09:21, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Page 205 of the Official 2006 NFL Record and Fact Book does list Vitt along with the other official head coaches of the Rams. There is also an asterick that does indicate that Martz took medical leave after 5 games in 2005. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 14:52, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

I added the Team MVP awards which I got from the Rams 1997 Media Guide (the most current copy I have). Information after 1997 I found by web crawling. If someone has information on the data that is missing, please add it. The Rams also give out an award for the best rookie of the year. 1979 championship

The rams have three nfc championships not two

1979 — NFL Champions Rams defeated Cowboys 21-19 in Dallas in the NFC Divisional Playoff Game on Dec. 30. Rams defeated Buccaneers 9-0 in Tampa for the NFC Championship on Jan 6, 1980. Rams lost to Steelers 31-19 in Superbowl XIV on Jan. 20, 1980.

I currently do not see anything wrong with the article. Therefore, I assume you misread the sentence in the first paragraph where it says "The team has won two NFL Championships and one Super Bowl.". That sentence is regarding the 1945 NFL league championship, the 1951 league championship, and the 1999 Super Bowl league championship; It is not referring to the NFC conferences titles. Uniform inaccuracy on 1964-72 Rams

Rams 1964-72 uniforms

Concerning this, the correct design for the Rams away jerseys of this period had a blue stripe on the shoulder pad area instead of the stripes and TV numbers on sleeves (the blue home one is correct). WAVY 10 Fan (talk) 17:10, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Alternate uniform

Can anybody sustain the claim that the gold jersey is an authentic and not just a fashion jersey? The official style guides would be ideal, but the NFL guards those pretty jealously. The online shop does not include the gold among the authentics it offers for sale (only replicas), so that fails to provide any proof. I'm adding the cite tag back one more time - please don't remove it until you can replace it with a citation - that's what the tag is there for. It's an official alternate jersey, regardless if its worn on the field or in the stands. The St Louis Rams Public Relations and the Rams Equipment Manager both confirmed it (314)982-7267. It seems that you are the only one with a problem on here and on the Bucs' and Chiefs' wiki pages. If the Public Relations department for the St Louis Rams says its an official alternate jersey to be worn by the fans, than its an OFFICIAL ALTERNATE JERSEY....end of discussion. The PR department are the ones that have the exact answer. Second, the Official Rams Pro Shop is the official shop of the St Louis Rams....the only alernate jersey you can purchase on there is the GOLD alternate jersey. That is the OFFICIAL shop!! [2] **IMPORTANT NOTE: You will notice that the gold jersey is the ONLY jersey listed as the official alternate jeresy....regardless if its a replica or not. This is the official alternate jersey for the fans. The famale pink jersey isn't listed as an alterante jersey. Show me another jersey listed on the OFFICIAL St Louis Rams pro shop that is listed as an alternate jersey and you have a legit arguement. Second, if you're going to cite that shop link, then the jersey should be identified as "alternate replica" since nowhere on that site is it listed as a team authentic. Well, since you're looking for consensus, I thought I'd throw my $0.02 in - if an official document can be provided by the organization, stating that the gold is an "alternate" jersey, then that's an RS (even if it's essentially primary or secondary sourcing - should think an official team document claiming a jersey is their alternate would be acceptable, and pretty definitive, after all). Changing the jersey pants on the main uniform picture.

It seems that the Rams are slowly fading out the gold jersey pants and replacing them with the white and blue versions. Notice the following:

Week 1: Rams vs. Eagles - Rams wear blue jerseys with white pants
Week 2: Rams vs. Giants - Rams wear blue jerseys with white pants
Week 3: Rams vs. Seahawks - Rams wear white jerseys with gold pants
Week 4: Rams vs. Bills - Rams wear blue jerseys with white pants
Week 5: bye
Week 6: Rams vs. Redskins - Rams wear blue jerseys with white pants
Week 7: Rams vs. Cowboys - Rams wear white jerseys with blue pants
Week 8: Rams vs. Patriots - Rams wear white jerseys with blue pants

The Rams have only worn the gold pants once during the regular season. This being stated, I'm changing the default Rams' uniform picture to correctly reflect this change. Since the gold jerseys have worn only once so far, they are better suited to be a part of the jersey combination picture instead of being the main uniform.

Hopefully everyone is ok with this. I will keep an eye on every week the Rams play to see if the gold jersey begins to make a more frequent comeback.

Well, I'd be happier with it if there was some official confirmation that the team has changed the primary uniforms, instead of just choosing to use the white & blue pants instead of the gold. Technically speaking (and yes, this is kinda stupid), this kind of change may qualify as original research/synthesis based on primary sources. Without an "official" statement by the team on the uniforms, I'd say about the best we could do would be to say that "although the official uniform remains blue and gold [or whatever], in 2007 and 2008 the Rams often wore white and blue" (but better said, obviously). On that note, it isn't also stated that the "official" uniform combination for gameday is blue and gold. They seem to just pic a jersey combination and go with it. That being said, its smartest for us to just use the more worn combinations as their default uniforms which is now the blue jersey with white pants and white jersey with blue pants and since the gold pants have only been worn ONCE this entire season, they are basically nothing more than an alternate combination now. . Fair enough, in that case. If I may, I would recommend that the picture caption might say something like "typical Rams home uniform / typical Rams away uniform", with the comment in the text that for the 2007 and 2008 seasons, the Rams have been doing Blue/White and White/Blue, with Gold pants as an alternate. I was also shocked that the Rams do not have an official uniform combination listed anywhere. I like the caption idea and will add that, thank you. Even though it seems that the Rams have finally stuck with a uniform combination the 2008 season (blue/white and white/blue with gold being the alternate), it would be nice if they would make some sort of official document besides the one they made in 2000 when they drastically changed uni's. Los Angeles Rams uniform, 1964-1972

The image shown has the Rams' blue socks with two white stripes. This is incorrect; the socks were always solid blue. Actually, in retrospect, the material regarding the LA Rams uniform history that I added is pretty long and involved. If any of you think it is too much in proportion to the newer uniform data, by all means edit and trim it to your liking. This is an uncited and unencyclopedic observation, and in any case those factors existed elsewhere. Every NFL city had college teams nearby. UCLA, by the way, was not a major power at the time: the Bruins didn't step up to the top level till long after 1946, although they did make the Rose Bowl once. Everything here lists that the Rams played in Anaheim from 1966 - 1984. They did not. The Rams moved to Anaheim for the 1980 season. Correction needed on Frontieres end game in LA

Cleveland Rams merger

Someone put a Merge template on Cleveland Rams last month, but they didn't start the discussion here. Well, I'll do it.

It is clear to me that the Cleveland Rams, the Los Angeles Rams, and the St. Louis Rams, all should be together in one article. Why? They are one franchise and one team that share all the same team records. The St. Louis Rams count the NFL championship in 1945 as theirs, so they can't be a team that just came into existence in 1995. All three articles should be merged here.   • First of all, that statement is completely unsubstantiated, and I personally believe that the opposite is true. Many fans are interested in their teams' histories.
  • Secondly, even if it was true, so what? Do we restrict information from articles because we don't think someone will be interested in it? Most articles are going to have some sections that garner more interest than others. Shall we delete those sections that we suspect are not of much "interest"?
  • Thirdly, even if this assertion is true, what harm is rendered from merging? Anyone looking for "Cleveland Rams" will get here with a redirect.

"The first professional American football team to have a logo on their helmets"

This statement is untrue. At least one other professional team had them first; the American Football League's Boston Shamrocks, who wore shamrocks painted on their helmets in 1936 (pictured [3] on ESPN writer Paul Lukas's blog[4]). Not in any way to minimize Fred Gehrke's contribution, but it would be more accurate to say that the Clevaland Rams were "the first NFL team to have a logo on their helmets", as this St Louis Post-Dispatch article does: http://www.stltoday.com/sports/football/professional/rams-uniform-change-likely/article_0092f450-465f-5a4f-b15f-9a7355c89dd4.html I'm going to make that change.
