Revise and reorganize
[edit]Hi @The Librarian at Terminus, Megalibrarygirl, Maile66, and Ser Amantio di Nicolao: I have contacted you regarding the article Lucy G. Acosta because you have made a major edit or made an edit within the last couple of years. I have been reading about Acosta, including an article from the Handbook of Texas Online: [1]. I would like to rewrite and reorganize the article to conform better to the MoS and guidelines for biographies. Collaboration, advice, guidance, or criticism would be appreciated. Sincerely, Oldsanfelipe (talk) 08:37, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oldsanfelipe Hi! Since Lucy G. Acosta is from El Paso, I may have some resources offline you can use. I'll be back in El Paso on August 12, so feel free to ping me. I'm happy to see her article get some attention! :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 11:35, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oldsanfelipe Here are some online sources I got from the database:
- I have to run, but I can pull more later. There's at least 98 matches in Newspapers.com :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 12:02, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Megalibrarygirl: Thanks for the assistance and encouragement. Cheers, Oldsanfelipe (talk) 13:44, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Oldsanfelipe: No problem. I'm always happy to help, especially with my local ladies! I have a few more references and when I get back to El Paso, I'll check the offline sources (if there are any--though I'm sure there's a few). I'm clipping out the relevant articles now: she's mentioned a lot and there's multiples of the same article, that's why I got so many hits in Newspapers.com
- El Paso Times 1994
- Herald Post 1962, mentions council 335
- Herald Post 1963 "Lady LULAC"
- El Paso Times 1965
- 1973 profile piece
- El Pso Times 1978
- El Paso Times 1980
- [2] and El Paso Times 1984
- 1982 profile
- OMG, her horoscope!

- @Megalibrarygirl: I was able to incorporate two of the sources into the article. I think it is now well-organized and well-sourced, except for one fragment near the end. Eventually I will remember which source it came from. In any case, is there a problem with synthesis or being too aggressive in my edits? I also left the newspaper.com clippings without urls because I don't know the correct way to handle it. I'll just step away and watch, unless anyone has questions. Cheers, Oldsanfelipe (talk) 16:23, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Oldsanfelipe: I think it looks good! I added the URLs to the cites. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:15, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Megalibrarygirl: One more question about newspapers.com: are those stable URLs? If so, I should remove the subscription parameters from the citations. Thanks for working with me. Cheers, Oldsanfelipe (talk) 04:32, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Oldsanfelipe: They're pretty stable. Every once and while Newspapers.com does a weird thing where they "upgrade" the image, but I don't think it messes with the URL. You're right... I'll remove the subscription tag. I should have noticed that. :P Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:46, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
