Anonymous added the dates[edit]

"Anonymous" added the dates for two distinguished speakers in 2014. One of the dates was incorrect and I changed that. I have strong doubts about using a Wikipedia page to promote dates for events and was very tempted to delete them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_a_soapbox_or_means_of_promotion

Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion....Those promoting causes or events, or issuing public service announcements, even if noncommercial, should use a forum other than Wikipedia to do so.

also

Wikipedia is not a directory - Directories, directory entries, electronic program guide, or a resource for conducting business. For example, an article on a radio station should not list upcoming events, current promotions, current schedules, etc., although mention of major events, promotions or historically significant program lists and schedules may be acceptable.''

So, on the basis that the speakers are truly notable and that it is not a list of upcoming events but a mention of two major events, I left them in (after correction) and made the text more encyclopaedic by adding references to them being "scheduled" dates, previously announced on the MAS official website.

I found a lot of links were dead, mainly due to local newspapers replacing their websites and integrating with national newspaper websites. I deleted them and will hopefully look to see if any of the links can be replaced.

I welcome contributions to this page which improve the content. However, today I noticed that a reference was added to a new page, "White House Astronomy". On the basis of relevance, I am reversing that addition. The link between the USA President's Astro Night and a forum organised by a group of amateur astronomers based in far away Australia is so tenuous it is almost non existent!

See also[edit]

There is no sect called "Related Lists" on Wikipedia.

We call the sect See also.

Per WP:LAYOUT.
